Allie Update

Allie just got her CBC results back today, and everything was normal. she is starting to gain weight, her feathers are looking nice, she is preening better, and her diet change is going wonderfully. She has been in quarantine for about 3 months now and will finally be going to meet my other birds tomorrow! Got the doc's "all clear"!

If you don't know about Allie, check out the older thread in the health section titled "This is Allie."

I have lots, but they're all on my dad's external hard drive. My camera malfunctions and my pictures got corrupted so I had to format the memory card. Of course I can take new pictures.

I plan to take some of them all meeting tonight so I'll be sure to post them, probably sometime tomorrow. I'm excited! I'm always super anxious when quarantine finally ends and they all meet. Hopefully Luna doesn't terrorize her like he did Krissi.

The meeting went okay. She wasn't crazy to see the other birds. She likes people much more. Luna was VERY interested in her and got pretty ticked that she was ignoring him..so he started nipping her tail feathers. Kirk was singing to her, and Taz just ran off and played on top of her cage. Then Luna and Kirk went and played on top of her cage.

She is scared of the big double stack cage, so we'll have to leave her little one beside it until she gets used to it. I was planning on putting her and Taz together and leaving Kirk and Luna in the other half. But Luna has been chasing Kirk around. So it might be that I leave Luna and Taz together and let her and Kirk be cagemates. Luna and Kirk are both bonded to Taz, but Taz is not bonded to either of them. So we'll see..

Well it ended up that Taz and Allie are in the top cage, and Luna and Kirk are in the bottom cage. And Taz (who never shows any male behavior) has been singing to Allie, doing heart wings, beak banging, and head bobbing. He will be 3 years old in November and this is the first he's every displayed male-defining traits.

Well done with Allie.
And it sounds like love is in the air.

Edit: I have just been over your thread Re Allie.
It is so good of you to take her on, and I am sure she does know that. and repays you. They do understand a lot more than some give them credit for.

Tweety my first tiel was handicapped and could not perch, due to her bad feet. She had nails that almost were closed hooks.

Do you think Allie's colour is darker due to the bad bood condition? If so you should see her colour lighten up as her condition improves.

A tribute to my lost ones. RIP.

No, she is just a dark bird. Greys come in all different shades of grey. She is still doing well. She is a pellet hog now. This bird, who used to only eat seed, loves pellets like crazy now! She is still putting on weight slowly..and she is getting around the cage easier everyday. She needs another beak filing done as it has grown out a bit, but it is growing much slower now so there are signs that her liver is healing. We are blessed to have found her. She is our sweetest bird.

Ok! Why I asked was when I adopted Roxy (RIP) from the rescue she was very dark with strong yellow. We put this down to bad blood condition.
She also had egg laying health trouble (soft shell). At that time. We have no idea of how old she was, But I felt she was a young girl.
As she gained condition, I had her injected with lupron which gave her chance to get better. and as she molted her colour became much more natural for a normal grey. After the injections wore off she went back to egg laying. I tried everything to stop her, but was to late the second time.
I lost her as she had a prolapse and did not survive the anesthetic on the operating table.
Here are two untouched photos of her. In this one you can see just how dark she was.

And then over a year later.

It is always great when they respond to good care.
Give Allie a hug from me.

A tribute to my lost ones. RIP.
