poor Bob

Bob is lethargic and has runny poo.
I got him new food but from usual place, they feed their birds on it.
Also new toy.
I am careful about his food and cleaning.
I got given a second hand cage and it was literally in the same room for 2 minutes.
I have a vet appointment but can't see avian vet.
He will call avian vet in if he's worried.
Bob also lost 10g in weight.
Don't know if its fair to stress him.now but what else is there?
I am so worried Bob is also moulting.
I have been ill and he hasn't had as much attention as usual.
I just hope its not serious.
Please keep him in your thoughts.

Hope it is nothing serious Kate underlying illnesses can be with them years and randomly pop up. It could be the new food but if it's a seed mix I can't see why he'd lose weight. 10g of weight loss is a lot for a bird

sounds like it can be the stress from molting, which if anything, i hope it's just that

my guys all lose weight, all are a bit more nappy, and do have more watery droppings when molting.

so finger's crossed it's just a molt

Hi, he's given me a probiotic vitamin supliment. Avipro.
Anyone used it?. I have mixed it in his water.
He said it would help if it was the stress of the molt.
It's nice and easy to mix and says on it used in zoos for stressful times when moving animals.
He was concerned about the weightoss and would like me to weigh him daily for a wk.
I would like to see the avian vet next time.
He's around in Tuesday so.no improvement and we'll go back.
Bob has perked up now.
He perked up half an hour before the vets.
Those of you with children will no that they at least wait until you are in the Dr's before miraculous recovery occurs.
Let's hope he stays lively.
Noisy toad.

Darwin was the same. He was almost dead when I took him to see my AV but as soon as I got him out the carrier he ran over to him, knocked everything off the shelves and had a bath in the sink LOL! Avipro is good. I use it and have never had an issue

Thanks Daisy, and thanks everyone for your kind words.
He's still not right.
He's decided to be clingy.
So I'm getting lots of kisses and talking.
But when I sit down he just goes to sleep.
He fell asleep on the floor.
He is eating but I have to watch him over the next few days.

Aw, best wishes to poor little Bob, I hope he feels better. It's so upsetting when our pets get sick like that and we don't know what is wrong.

Kate, does he eat veggies? You can sprinkle the probiotics on any moist foods (like veggies, mash, etc).. it is tricky putting it in water because you dont know how much of the probiotics he is getting/or if he is getting enough.

I need to weigh him and work it out.
He still not himself.
Poo still watery.
He had some pasta and green capsicum.
Not playing.
I'll weigh him after tea.
He's off back to sleep now.
Poorly boy.

I use avipro for reptiles and parrots and it's great stuff!

Birds do lose weight during molting as other posters have said but stress can be a real killer too so good to try all angles x

I weighed fluffy every 2 days when she was ill so I could still work out what she was losing on a daily basis without over stressing her. I found a lot of the weight loss happened overnight but logically I reckon it would be gradual through the day but by morning they have done all their night poops so it's more obvious.

Good luck with Bob x

Edit: have you also thought of sprinkling some brewers yeast on his food? It's good to help reduce stress and help a bird process the nutrients in it's food x

I got up late as I am in a lot of pain.
Bob is sat fluffed up on bottom of cage.
Avian vet away but seeing his colleage.
It's a good vet surgery.
I haven't much hope.

He had a baytrill injection.
Sending fecal sample off.
Quiet, but at least he's perching now.

Help. Bob not eaten all day.
Just put apple in.
He can't get enough.
He looks bad, beak rough, feathers stuck out.
Any ideas, won't eat seed but apple. Could it be beak thing.
Make him cous cous in a bit.
He acting starving.
Could he know something wrong with seed?
Got him new seed today and put it in.
All suggestions could be helpful.

I am so sorry... I guess I would just keep trying with all his favorite things, even if they are not the best such as sunflower seed, millet etc.. Does he eat pasta , cooked grains, rice etc.. Will he eat more if you feed it from your fingers.. I hope he recovers. Does he eat pellets? Will he eat them soaked in apple juice?
