Sour smelling feces?

So I opened the door to the bird room this morning to a horrible sour smell - Goober's poo stinks!!! While I certainly know it's not good and she needs to go to a vet, my hands are tied momentarily - the closest avian vet is 4 hours away We have a local vet that sees birds but they certainly aren't specialists and only one doctor there really is comfortable examining them and she only works Saturday and Sunday... really, I just don't trust her honestly so I'd prefer not to waste my money. I'm going to start her on a week of doxycycline just in case, but has anyone had any experience with this before? Diet is the same, water is the same, no changes in environment or anything. I had noticed a bit of a funk for a week or so before this but I figured it was dirty papers and her new penchant for taking her teacup toy and spilling water all over the bottom of her cage making me change the paper every day But the paper is new, she just took a big poo and I smelled it and it smells very sour, very unpleasant Anyone experience this before or know of a cause?

the egg poops start first before the bum, and yes they can be stinky!

that would be my first suspicion, but giardia can also cause smelly poops. i would suspect eggy over giardia, but can never be too sure

I hope it's something as (relatively) easy as an egg - that would be nice! She has been a delightful hormonal mess, as all the scabs and scars on my hands can attest, but that's normal for this time of year.

As far as egg poops go, I know you all said they stink but are they strong enough to make a bedroom smell intolerable? Overnight the bird room which is just the third bedroom of our house closed off, smelled so bad that when I opened the door Gareth could smell it in the other room 10 feet away

i have small birds and the poops are pretty strong when they have egg poops, i would imagine a larger bird would be worse.

What is the consistency of the poops? Are they normal healthy looking or has the consistency changed? Have any new toys been introduced?
