Taji - Yellowsided Green Cheek Conure

I haven’t introduced Taji to you all yet. He is the newest addition to the flock, I got him in September (4ish months ago) and he was 9 weeks old. He is about 6 and a half months old now!

I had got in contact with a breeder I got 2 Budgies from because he had been advertising GCC babies, and I seen that there was Yellowsided babies and.. I couldn’t help myself. There was 3 (or might have been 4) but I was second to get one of the babies once weaned and someone else was getting the first baby once weaned, there was about 2-3 weeks between them in age but I didn’t mind, I would have had to wait a bit longer, and I had to get a cage and all yet! Anyway, I was planning to get a baby for my mum, it would have been a bit of a late birthday present, but when I told her she lashed out "I DON’T WANT ANYMORE!" - she has 3 birds already.. I had made plans and everything to have the baby dropped off and I couldn’t turn around and say "Oh sorry, I don’t want the baby anymore", especially since the first person who was going to get the first baby backed out all of a sudden and it put me up to being the first person and I had a week or so to get a cage ready and all!!

He is the sweetest little guy, seriously. He loves his scratches under the wings (in which we only do every now and again) and he is such a cuddle bug monster!

I *slowly* introduced him to Leila, and they started off really good.. that was until one day they turned on each other (NO idea why!) and now they dislike each other, a lot. It doesn’t bother me though, they prefer to have me to their selves and spend time with just me one-on-one.

Moving on to photos.

Photos of Taji the day he came home (9 weeks old):

(they are my brothers holding him by the way)

And here are some recent photos of Taji now.. (6 and a half months old - about):

He grew up so fast!

He is beautiful. I especially like the picture of him sleeping on you and the one of him scratching his face.

What a beautiful bird. He has really changed in 6 months

JoAnne, what color is your conure? It looks different.

I am researching them and get confused with the yellow-sided and pineapple.

The yellow sided has a red belly with yellow sides and the green is lighter, the pineapple is just completely different. I'll share some pics so you can see

The first pic is of a green cheek (right) next to a yellow sided, and the second is pineapple. There's also a blue mutation

A green cheek conure? Great choice! Do you prefer any mutations over the others or do you just like all of them the same ?

Bobiden - My sweet Libby is a Pineapple Green Cheek Conure, and she is the most wonderful bird EVER! Cuddly, clowny, smart and beautiful!

I can HIGHLY recommend a Pineapple GC to you!

She's molted since then and has even more red on her chest. I let her flight feathers grow out and they are a beautiful turquoise blue -- she's a stunner!

I actually like all three options. The breeder where I got Oliver from breeds Green, Cinnamon, and Pineapple. I don't think she does the Yellow-sided.

My favs are the Yellow-sided and Pineapple. Although any of them I think would be a good choice.

Thanks everyone. I want to get a Pineapple, that is going to be my next GCC.

I lovee the Cinnamons too, my Leila is a Cinnamon, and I think she is still really pretty:

What a sweetie pie, Solace! These Conures are SO cute!

When Libby lays on her back like that, if she can't grab my finger to hold onto, she clasps her feet together, like a person holding their hands together -- so cute!

Oh, I'm so smitten!

I highly recommend green cheek conures. Shira is affectionate, playful, easily trained, quiet, and sweet. She will bite, but it rarely hurts. She is what I term a very forgiving bird. You can make a mistake with her, and she will just go on with life and forgive you.

Bob, the pineapple is a bird with both the yellow-sided mutation and the cinnamin mutation. Therefore, the beak is light colored but the colors are very bright.

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!

So cute! Such adorable little critters they are. I know I love my little Cin Cin who is a cinnamon gcc. She just loves to be a cuddle bug. Her little round belly reminds me of a half ripe apple!
