the 3 musketeers!

pickles is slightly perch tamed. she doesn't really like getting on the perch, but she is tame enough to take out. recently, i started taking her out. i stopped for a while because i had trouble getting her back.

this weekend, we started with a clean slate. saturday, i grabbed her and clipped her wings (as she gets more tame i will let them grow out) and i put her on the tree with leon and butch. she was nervous at first; leon loved getting in everyones face and he doesn't know when to stop. she loved hopping around and going on the window gym she spent a few hours out and i put her back before it got dark (and so butch could spend time with only leon).

today, i got her on the perch to come out, she wasnt crazy about the idea :roll eyes: she was less nervous today. leon was so happy and was overwhelming her (he is such a bad egg!). luckily Pickles will stand up for herself and peck at him when he gets to attached to her. her and butch don't get along. they will sit next to each other but they don't get close or else they will fight. i think she knows butch is 'special' and butch doesn't like how leon ignores him when she is out. she came out twice today and i got some pics of the 3 munchkins on the tree!

her and butch aren't really good friends yet

the second time she came out, leon left her alone after a while. everyone was preening, which i took as a sign that everyone was relaxed

Butch and Pickles tolerating each others company

finally leon leaves pickles completely alone, letting her get her quick nap in

though it gets dark out fast when i come home from school, i am going to try and take her out every day so she can come out on a regular basis. with her being new to coming out and going back, i don't want to leave her out when my room is dark (i only have fish tanks and a string of christmas lights to light up my room, no room for a lamp!)

the other are coming along slowly… baby bird isn't crazy about the perch (she love talking though!), Bobby is coming along slowly, and I'm lucky if bowie just eats millet from me they will come out eventually- if i could train butch, a parakeet who is scared of people and has no trust, only put one foot on the perch in training ANd untamed himself after lenny died, then i think i can train the others

how do i get them to stay on the tree?
well, they started off like Pickles- clipped. they did have the moments where they fell (i feel bad when that happens). leon grew back his feathers quicker than older butch. they always stayed on the tree. butch started to grow back his wings after a while and had zero confidence when flying (i think his fatty tumor weighed him down some) and so he never really flew much. leon eventually started flying from one branch to another and onto the window gym. butch recently with in the past month or two, started to fly more. they both have partial clips, they have the 2 outer flights and are missing the 2-3 inner ones. it allows them to fly, but not as good as full wings. now that they have gotten used to flying from the window gym and the trees, they sometimes fly a loop around my room and land on the tree. leon, the little bad egg, sometimes flies to the other cages to say 'hi' and butch follows. so they don't always stay on the tree, but 98% of the time they stay on it, which is why i can leave the room. i check on them every few minutes, but they are good about staying. if they aren't there, they are on the other cages i have had them out there so much that i can usually tell where they are and what they are doing by the sounds (the window gym taps on the window when they are jumping on it), their singing, the sound of them flying (i can tell if they are flying to another part of the tree, making a loop, or going to another cage), or by the time of day because they have a schedule of where they are on the tree during the day. when they first come out, they are on the small tree and window gym, then on the big tree, then they sit in the back of the big tree and rest, then the hanging tree and small tree, and then its time to go back when it get late. you could say i know all my birds very well

An update from today: she is still not liking coming out. Leon has started to leaver her alone (not be so overwhelming and in her face) and sings with butch again. Leon and butch went off to do their own thing whle pickles stayed at the other end of the tree. She isn't as social as I thought she would be. Putting her back is much easier and she is slowly getting better at it sometime in the future, Bobby will be the next to come out. Then there will be 4 out!! I can't wait!
