Mina the camera hog

Cozette runs over to give me a kiss when I say "come gimma kiss" or "how about a kiss". I didn't try to teach her this but it just clicked one day that her and I understood each other lol. Cozette loves to give kisses! She'll even lean her little body out when she arrives for her kiss, lol. Anyway, Cozette was just giving me kisses and then when I tried to get it on video, she wouldn't come near me with the camera. Anyway, Mina on the other hand was all about the camera so the video was still cute.

4thebirds, you got a kiss!
Mina is so cute, I always say: Linnies are the best.

But - are you sure she is female?
The tip of her beak is dark.
She has marked black spots on her shoulder and as we Germans say "clearly dotted underpants"
I don't want to frighten you but from her appearance I would say your linnie is a little cock. Did you run a DNA test?

The breeder originally thought she was male but was willing to dna her anyway. When I picked her up the breeder plucked two tail feathers and sent the dna to a canadian company called healthgene. She came back as female.....I wonder if anyone has used this company or what are the chances for a boy to read as a girl. My understanding is that Mina would have to have two different chromosomes to read girl and only two of the same chromosomes to read male (opposite of human where females are xx and males are xy). It seems like it would be harder for males to be read as females given this.

I have never heard anything about beak tips? I thought darker mutations displayed it male and female.

That's indeed true.
If she had a DNA test it's very unprobable that the results are wrong.
I don't know exactly the percentage, but perhaps our colleagues can tell it from their results.

Since I always wondered if using 2 tail feathers could effect the results (that is what the breeder used, but the instructions say 4 chest feathers), I called the company. They said it wouldn't matter as long as they were plucked for the purpose of the test. They also said that feathers were just as accurate (99%) as blood. If there was not a enough dna on the feathers, than the results would have been inconclusive. Anyway, that makes me feel better. I just can't imagine going through life treating her like a girl and then her being a boy. And honestly, the name Mina isn't very forgiving in that regard. LOL. My husband says I have gender issues--I can't help it! I just need to know.

i understand that, 4thebirds.
For the first nine months I thought Paulchen was a girl. The bird felt that and was rather unsatisfied, and I was wondering why he used to scream.
