Smile New aviary addition [pics]

Since Flash (female red fronted kakariki) passed away recently, Ralph (male red fronted kakariki) has been beside himself and hasn't stopped calling for her. He's housed with my cockatiel pair but they're no company for him. He's really missing her. Unfortunately, kakarikis are very short lived. They do have the potential to live a lot longer but in most cases they rarely live more than 6-8 years. Flash was an adult when I got her and I have no idea how old she was. Over the last year or so she had started to age quite suddenly and needed a more comfortable aviary so she had plenty of flat perches, cotton perches and easy access to her food and water. She still bathed like a duck though. I was expecting it, though not so soon. She passed away and I was pretty gutted but more so I felt sorry for Ralphy

I decided to try and look for another kakariki. Not bothered about sex or even species as Ralph has been firing blanks since his first clutch so breeding them is off the menu. I managed to find a lovely baby yellow fronted kakariki, potentially male, who I thought would fit what I was looking for. He looks like a cinnamon dominant pied

Here are the photos of him from when I first got him (excuse my nails)

Here's some more recent photos of him

Cute huh? I have no idea what to name him yet though

He looks gorgeous, it was a very good idea to get a partner for Ralph.
Are they already becoming friends?

Thanks all! As I haven't had him for very long, I'd be way too uncomfortable putting him in with him just yet. They can hear one another though and I think that's helping put Ralph at ease as he's not yelling any more

If you're not breeding your tiels, you could have the kakarikis in with them no problem Mine have been housed together now for a while and they're doing really well

Just thought I'd do an update on him here instead of making a separate thread as I don't have any new photos to share, sorry! The little guy is doing really well He's definitely male. His beak just seemed to get huge and it went a beautiful silver colour. He's a typical kakariki, like, he likes to throw his (and Ralph's and the tiels) food bowls off the mesh so he can scratch it around on the floor I know it's a kakariki thing but as Ralph has gotten older he seems to have stopped doing it as much. I'm going to be switching back to having a washing up bowl as a food bowl so they can forage all they like WITHOUT making a grand mess He bathes daily, again something that is very much so kakariki! He went through one ugly moult but he's come out of it looking even more beautiful than before I will eventually get some more decent photos of him when I can!
