Puck's Thread

A few members showed interest in the photos of our White-fronted Amazon companion, so I thought to start this thread to have some of them gathered in a single place.

Be warned, I'm quite besotted with him, this thread will be quite photo-heavy.

This was last Sunday, the day after we brought him home.

Yesterday, playing

And posing for the camera

Some from today.

Should I get a falconer's glove?

He loves the full-spectrum light

...And the cats' ball

He is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing A few months back I was hoping to rescue a very badly abused and neglected WFA but unfortunately he passed away before he came to me He was happy for the time that he was with the person that rescued him so hopefully he passed on feeling a lot better!

Here's a couple of photos of him from when he first went to his rescuers home

I agree, Anna, such beautiful Amazons are a real temptation for me.
Thank God I'm a sensible person who prefers their small relatives as companion birds in my small apartment.

Thank you both, Anna and Karin.

Well, I didn't consider the big Amazons, either, but when I discovered that the White-fronted, depending on sub-species doesn't go beyond 9-10 inches there was no turning back (or, better, there was a very quick turn back to the shop to get him).

Daisy, I've read the thread you posted about him (I searched the forums for WFAs), reading I hoped so much that his story would have an happy end...at least he was rescued and, as you say, his time with the rescuer was happy. Sorry it ended like that, for both you and him, though.

It's okay! He was an older boy and had been through a lot of pain. His legs were pretty mangled and he had suffered enough. I'm somewhat grateful that I didn't have to deal with having him PTS or anything else heart breaking

And they are very, very small Amazons!

Ah! Small amazons! The temptation is almost too much....it's good that I don't have room for another cage For the mean time, I will enjoy stories/pictures of Puck.

And here I am with a couple more.

it looks like he might be interested in origami.

Maybe he could help me with the upcoming origami workshops for kids.

For sure, though, he's not afraid to try new things

He spent the afternoon doing a Tarzan impersonation: from the cage-top perch to the rope,up and down the cage's sides and back.

He steps on the dowel as soon as he's asked to and positions himself correctly to be taken out of the cage or put back in, he doesn't like to step up on a finger, likes the whole hand better, we wonder whether he might have fallen from a finger before.

You know? That was what had attracted me to parrotlets, when I discovered actual dwarf amazon existed, though I just couldn't resist.

He's the perfect size for us, feels...how can I say it... very 'concrete', very 'here and now' but not as intimidating as a full size amazon (boy, I could never deal with a cockatoo or a macaw).

Thank you! He amazes us every day.

Anna, I must definitely insert something to give a sense of scale in the pictures. Today we weighted him to be able to order the Aviator harness, he is 184 grams, that's 6.49 oz., last saturday at the shop size-wise he looked as he were the twin of the GCC they had.

Today we made a tabletop playstand for Puck

After a thorough inspection he approved of it.

I tied a piece of cinnamon to a twine and left it dangle from the ladder, he needed less than a minute to figure out how fish it up and proceeded to destroy it, I was left agape.

Inquisitive is definitely his middle name.

He's already good at manipulating things (and tries to manipulate humans as well, but that's a different story).

He seems to be ambidexterous, no marked preference for using one foot over the other that we could notice.

Puck is so adorable.
I 've heard that these little guys are very intelligent, I can imagine that he tries to manipulate you. He looks very self confident.

That's odd! Most birds are either left footed or right footed His face is just gorgeous. You can really tell what he's thinking
