Ah bless, frightened of the camera. What a sweetheart.
I miss my Lunatic now!
No Kate, think of the noise, mess, pain, toes! The kids'd be missing fingers.
Ah thats better, maybe when the kids have grown up I'll have another 'Too.
Oh that Brolly's really something.

We had a moluccan and an umbrella. The moluccan was a hand-fed baby we bought and took home right after weaning, the umbrella was a 20+ year old rescue who had been abused. They were absolutely fantastic, they were very quiet 90% of the day, only screamed when I came home from school because they were happy to get out and knew it was play time We actually encouraged them to scream at that time, I would take them on the patio out back and get them all riled up like the 'too in the video, screaming, flapping, displaying, to get it out of their system. After a half hour of that they were quiet all night haha

Woe. You're lucky. I held an umbrella. Did not take my eyes off that huge beak. I love it when they get all nuts like that. Luna and I used to have a good ole shout. Does good! The Too in the video looks like it has the run of the house. Lucky Too.

what a beautiful bird! My volume wouldn't work. I need to play that at home where the screaming will make me not want one! I am having a serious case of MBS. I just have Cricket and two dogs and an outside cat but am needing more birdy love!

Aww! That's so cute! I wonder how my birds would react to it if I didn't have my headphones on? :P (I thought I saw CJ scream a little bit, but I dunno.)

Is that what they do when they are happy? I don't know their varying postures and such.

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!

Totally! There's one in the house behind my boyfriends. I never noticed it before until we were stood and the bus stop and heard the stereotypical, extremely loud RAAAAAAAWK

That's their standard display. They do it when afraid and when excited. When I played with our Moluccan, you would think he was going to bite my face off. He'd put his crest up in full, fluff up his whole body, stick his wings out and screech bloody murder!! Then I'd waggle my fingers at him and he'd "strike" at them and gnaw on them. We also used to play peek a boo - I'd pop up from under the table and he'd puff and scream at me, then I'd hide and he'd whistle for me, but when I popped up he'd display at me and run at me... to give kisses of course It's hard to read the finer details of fear vs play vs aggression in cockatoo displays, which is why they're ranked as one f the most unpredictable birds out there. There are small details to it - the bird in this video, the way he runs forward and then runs back, pressing against the cabinets, strike as fear to me more than play. It starts as play then it turns more into fear, IMO

That makes me sad then, because I would suspect his people don't even realize he is afraid. Otherwise, why would they post a video of themselves making their bird afraid? Either way, it doesn't bode well for their future relationship. If they are terrorizing the bird without realizing it, eventually he will bite as his last resort at protection, and then who knows what will happen to him. If, on the other hand, they are sick enough to think it is funny to scare him, then the bird doesn't have a chance at a happy existence with them.

We went to a pet store today, they do not sell many animals, mostly fish , small mammals, sometimes canaries. We know the owner because my husband goes there fairly often to buy stuff for his aquarium. Well today they had an umbrella cockatoo. The owner said it is an older bird (over 30) and he lived with a couple for most of his life but they had several parrots and as they got older it became too much to care for them all. So the store owner adopted him, but I do not know if he realizes what he is in for (he only has the bird two weeks), he said so far the bird was fairly quiet but while we were there he sure made some noise, lol. He is SO LOUD!! He wasn't even really screaming, just playing and making noises with a few screams here and there but OMG was it ever loud. The bird gets a lot of attention in the store and he gets to come out of the cage and play so seems happy (although somewhat plucked like many cockatoos). He was cute but I could not live with that level of noise. It was actually good to see that, it made me realize that Hootie is not really that bad, lol.
