Talking I met my favourite species

I visited a parrot zoo on Saturday for my birthday and the highlight was meeting a few hyacinth macaws. I met a pair of hyacinth macaws in an aviary that I assume were a breeding pair and this guy out and about. The pair were very friendly and curious. They flew right to us when we walked by. The fella out and about didn't step up but he leaned in for some loving and smooches. He was such a sooky bird, so gentle. I can't get over how different they are to the other macaws. Every movement is very deliberate and you can see how much they're thinking through their eyes. Completely unique and so so lovely. I had seen Hyacinth macaws at Loro Parque in an aviary but they were a breeding pair that weren't interested in people. I was still in awe when I saw them and realised how big they are. Getting this close to one for a snuggle was amazing. I want one even more now

I will be posting all of the other photos over time, I took SO many though

I hope you can appreciate this bird as much as I did!

Daisy I know how excited you must have been. Of all the large Macaw's these are the only ones that I would love to own as well. Back in 2005 a bird club I was involved with held a conference and there was a Hyacinth there. Before that I had only ever seen them in pictures or video's. As the President of the club is a good friend also, I managed to get up close and personal with the Hyacinth. He was just so beautiful and so sweet. They are such huge birds, you really don't realize how big they are until you are right next to one.
