They are often reffered to as albinos but their actual mutation is Whiteface Lutino

whiteface lutinos are not albino but they do have red eyes. lutino cockatiels have red eyes because they lack melanin. where whiteface cockatiels lack the yellow and orange colours.... making them grey and white. combine the two, you get a whiteface lutino. an all white bird with red eyes, but it is not albino. just a combination of mutations.

to get a WF lutino, both parents must carry the whiteface gene, whether it is visual or split (hidden gene). the father must carry the lutino gene (split or visual). females cannot be split lutino or any other sex linked mutation, they can only be visuals.

if the father is a whiteface split lutino and the mother is a grey split whiteface, this is what you would get:

Mother:Grey Split To Whiteface
Father:Whiteface Split To {X1: Lutino}

male offspring:
25% Whiteface Split To {X1: Lutino}
25% Whiteface
25% Grey Split To Whiteface {X1: Lutino}
25% Grey Split To Whiteface

female offspring:
25% Whiteface Lutino
25% Whiteface
25% Lutino Split To Whiteface
25% Grey Split To Whiteface

in this pairing, only females will be whiteface lutinos.

theres other combinations but i will not get into them lol lutino is a sex linked mutation so the father must carry it in order to get one. if the mother is a lutino but the father does not carry the gene, you will not get any whiteface lutino babies. for example:

Mother:Lutino Split To Whiteface
Father:Whiteface

male offspring:
50% Whiteface Split To {X2: Lutino}
50% Grey Split To Whiteface {X2: Lutino}

female offspring:
50% Whiteface
50% Grey Split To Whiteface

I'm just plain confused!! What is the difference between an albino and a wf lutino? Lutino is a yellow series ( or green series , but as the green color is absent it leaves them yellow) albino isn't it??

The difference (I'm pretty sure...) is that there is no albino. I'm sure Casey will come by with more info.

there are no albino cockatiels the yellow is removed in the whiteface mutation and the grey is removed in the lutino mutation, so if you combined the two right, you remove both the yellow and grey and get an all white bird. whiteface lutinos have red eyes. clear pieds have dark eyes. lutinos have a whitish body while whitefaces have a white face and no yellow or orange at all. so thats how that works. genetics are confusing lol only way a whiteface lutino will have any hint of colour is if it is a cinnamon whiteface lutino, which will give them a dirty look. confusing, isnt it?

I cant understand how to get all the mutations.
I do however understand the mutation colours.
I used to have a at lutino and they are lovely.
Next to lion head which is a nickname for removing the red cheeks over here they are the most sought after mutation.
How long is it taking to feed 8 tiels Solace?
I bet its really messy!

Very confusing...lol I have 2 lutino budgies and that was confusing enough when I bred them out of a green dom pied hen and a violet opaline male... but I LOVE the lutinos no matter how they are made...lol
