Meet the Extended Family!

These birds are like my kids We get them in at around 2 weeks to a month of age and raise them at the store. Many of them have found homes since I took the photos, but I love them all to death!

First up we have Boo, the 4 month old Green Wing Macaw. He has learned quite a few words already (hello, love you, oooh!) and will high five and spread his wings on command!

Next is Leila, our Lilac Crowned Amazon. She went home... 2 weeks ago? She was such a cutie, she always copied my voice whenever she talked!

Third is Mr. E, our baby Eclectus, who went home a few months ago. Such a sweet, gentle bird. He went to a family of 4, two 12+ year old kids. They all love him to death!

Fourth is Hahnsie, our Hahn's Macaw. She has the cutest little voice! Sweet, but a little nippy, and shy around new people. All in all, average macaw! We hope to find her a new home soon!

Fifth is my baby, a Senegal, who went home 2 months ago. I believe they named him Chevey! He was shy and hated everyone but me but with some work and care, I convinced his new owners to take him home and he has warmed up to them tremendously! Still won't come out of the cage willingly but will beg for scratches and kisses!

Next is Angel, the Pionus my mom actually took home! The disadvantages to working at a pet shop - I take so many home!

Sixth we have our month and a half (I believe) little Sun Conure! He/She is SUCH a ham! Already trying to talk in the cute conure way, will try and hide wherever he/she can and snuggle up to you, eats like a little hog!

Lastly, my little Blue, the blue Quaker! She is such a little darling, will blow me kisses and talk to me and we're working on the cage possession she's developed in the last week or two Typical quaker, eh?

I figured everyone would like to meet the fids I work with - they're like my kids in so many ways, we spend so much time raising them and socializing them, it really is a full time job! Not to mention the cleaning! That's my worst favorite part - I clean poop all day then come home and clean MORE poop!

They're ALL so beautiful, Jenny. You are very lucky to be able to see and talk to them as much as you do.

I don't usually cry because I'm just so happy to see them go to loving homes, but I do on occasion. We had a pair of Caiques, brothers, who were inseparable. Someone came in and bought the more outgoing one, I'd named him Caesar. Plato, the more shy brother, was so depressed for a few days... then the woman came in and bought Plato too! I was so happy I was crying like a dork! She even kept the pet-names I had given them! It's things like that which make me love my job! The best part is, since we do groomings as well, I get to see nearly all my 'babies' every 2-3 months too!

You do have a great job, they're all beautiful . I considered owning a pet shop at one time, but seriously, I would have gone broke, cause I would have been crying and procrastinating every time I made a sale.

Actually, I'm studying to be a high-school teacher I'm going to teach social studies, so history, economics, politics, psychology, etc. I looked into working in Avian Behavior but... then I wouldn't make any money so I couldn't support my fids and my eventual family. Now, if the boyfriend gets a good paying job, I plan to go into breeding and behavior then For now, it's more fun to have my birds as a hobby and work at the pet shop for my fix

Here are some more photos of previous birds at the shop! First we have a green cheek conure, Nikki the Umbrella Cockatoo who went home last month, and a conure party! A peach-front conure and 2 little sunnies. They were all the same age and grew up together so got along great! I also have some videos to share!

First is Estrellita (I think I spelled it right) one of our White Bellied Caiques! She went home... 2-3 months ago now!

This is Miranda, our Goffin's Cockatoo, who will be going home soon! She says Hi, Hello, Hey, Yeeeeaaaaah, Dance dance dance! and a few other phrases. She loves to dance and will wave hi and shake hands!

This is our Moustached Parakeet who went home not too long after I filmed this. His baby cry was just the cutest thing in the whole wide world!

And these are the cockatiels I hand-fed and 'baby-sat' while my manager, their breeder, went on vacation for the week They were adorable but, dang, were they noisy! Not much beats a tiel for loud obnoxious baby sounds!

They are so beautiful, Jenny. Maybe I'll get to work in a bird store when I retire. :-)

They're so cute you have a great rapport with them. I always wanted a caique, but after hearing so many stories about their temperaments, neediness, and screaming when they reach sexually maturity I gave up on the idea. . I love the crying tiels.

Great videos, but I swear the moustache baby is the cutest ever.
How do you manage to separate from that little bird.

Well, a woman came in interested in him and he jumped up on her shoulder, cuddled up into her neck under her hair, and started making that happy little noise while playing with her hair It was love at first sight for both! That's a perfect example of why i really love my job! Those are the moments I live for!
