Looki here!

What do you know, it's another bird to join the flock of 9

This is Tagoo. She is my latest and my last adoption. I was told she is 5 years old, but my guess is she is about 12 years old. She is currently being quarantined in my room. Isn't she just beautiful?

She is very tame with men so I am fine to handle her.

Does she talk you asked? She can talk for the whole of England, haha . She has a woman's voice.

I only had her today and she has already stepped up and climbed onto my shoulder. She is a sweetheart and isn't frightened easily, I have not seen her with any phobia yet

What a beauty! Love African Greys, so intelligent! As a general question does anyone know if vets are able to approximate the age of mature parrots? I believe my rescue Too is older than the 12 -15 years I was told by relinquishers, but she was on home 4 or 5 by then ... (PS: We really need to add an Umbrella Too to the smiley face icons, ha!)

No, they can't until they are very old and that mostly holds true for the larger species, only (arthritis, sunken eyes, etc). With passerines (and to a certain extent, with parrots, too) the legs give you a good idea of whether you have a young adult or a mature adult but, when it comes to parrots, the 'look' mostly depends on the diet, exercise, etc. because you can have a 10 year old macaw that looks ancient (ragged and dull plumage, peeling beak, loss of muscle mass, etc) even though at 10, he would be a very young adult. A bird kept under good conditions (fresh food diet, good artificial lights and exposure to direct sun, solar light schedule, flighted and cage-free, living in flock, etc) doesn't look or act old at all even when it is.
