Cool New Addition! :D

Well, I have a new addition to my family tonight - I was able to bring home Goober, the Severe Macaw! I'm so excited! He's one of my hand-fed babies from the pet shop who has been there for 1 year and never found a home because... well... he's a severe macaw! He's a little moody and temperamental with people he doesn't know well. I can flip him upside down, he does back flips, front flips, plays dead, swings around... I can do anything with him. But someone he doesn't know he'll stand on and tolerate and bite if they push the issue - fairly standard macaw I'll post some pictures later, tonight he's adjusting to the new home and cage

Yes, this is the macaw from the other thread Here are some photos and a video! I got him to do some of his tricks - this bird loves to be thrown around I've never seen anything like it!

He's just the coolest thing I've always wanted a big bird and never dreamed I could get my hands on him!! I used to hate severe macaws (grew up with my grandfather's severe who sent me to the hospital for stitches) but he's the sweetest. I really think he's mildly mentally handicapped... When we got him his mother had plucked him nearly bald at 4 weeks old and threw him out of the nest. He didn't wean out until he was around 7 months old so he definitely has some emotional issues because of it and I think he's just not quite right. But I love him so much! He's so passive compared to other severe's I've worked with. Not nearly as moody.

Aw, that's so sad.
But he is in GREAT hands (yours, that is) so I'm sure he will be cared for to the utmost extreme of excellence. Special birds always have that special spark.

as long as you spoil him like you are he'll be fine! I'm glad he's getting a chance at a good, normal life.

Oh he is a sweetie! Congratulations!! Love the video! Has he ever tried to get your earrings? I can't wear earrings around my birds, Zoe especially, she immediately pulls them off. The linnies will try also, so just don't wear them at home.

Oh, he took one out yesterday I don't wear nice or expensive jewelry anymore. I get the 10 pack little plastic colored studs at Target anymore! But working 40 hours a week with parrots plus living with a house full you learn very quickly to not wear anything you value! I had two (thankfully cheap) rings actually crushed in half on my fingers in my first week there by a Green Wing Macaw! They had to be bent with pliers and cut off!

Good grief. I am referring to the rings on your fingers. I have a very healthy respect for birds with strong beaks.
