Red bellied macaws

So as those who read my Illiger's macaw for sale (I did edit the post, I got mixed up with the blue winged and red bellied, the blue winged is the Illiger's oops ) you will all know that I am hopefully getting him very soon, hopefully next week. I'm just waiting for the owner to let me know.

Sadly this is how he is currently living

It makes me so sad. Well, if (which I'm 99% sure he is) he is coming to live with me, he's actually going to be moving into a very large aviary. I would keep him in the cage but look at it. I'm going to try and clear it up. Maybe when the house has been sorted out he can come back inside, but for now I'm going to fill the aviary with lots of toys and swings and all kinda things for him. I'm also going to put him on a much better diet.

I'm not too sure on the species though. I have never heard of anybody keeping them as pets and I'm finding very little information on them. I was hoping that somebody on here MAY know anything about them. So far all I've found out is:
- they're prone to obesity and should eat less seeds etc than most parrots and more fruit and veg
- they can have a very nervous temperament but once settled in with you have the same personality of a blue and gold macaw
- are loud
- 20 inches long ... so fairly big!
- needs LOTS of space
- like things to hide in
- in the wild almost 100% of their diet is made up of palm fruit. I can't buy these but you can buy the palm fruit stuff for parrots from most good sites, I could put this on his food?

Thanks guys! I can't wait to get him

I've got the same cage. If you give that cage a good scrub down it'll be fine for the Macaw, add a few more perches so he can move from one to the next and all will be good. I know you already know this but I like making comments

I'll make the cage as nice as I can if I decide to use it for him. If not I may buy a bigger one, if he's allowed to stay in the house. If not he'll have my aviary outside which is 9ft long and 6ft wide. I'm sure I can fit loads of cool stuff in there. I want a big climbing net for him if I get him in there could you show me pictures of your cage please if you wouldn't mind? I can't really tell how it is meant to look

Oh dear I'm in trouble. Ok here is the cage set-up . I know people here have got set-up that is 100s times better. This is ok for me and Duke the senegal is happy to climb around in it. I have few rope perches in cause I know he likes to climb. With this cage you can open the top of the cage up and use it as a playgym if you wish

There is nothing wrong with that set up at all I'm worried that the cage is too small. I mean this bird is 20 inches long while a senegal is only 9 inches. I'm thinking I'm gunna have to go out and buy another cage if I don't think this is suitable for him. I'm hoping he wont have to go into my aviary

I've only just noticed from the photos. My cage is only slightly cleaner than the Macaw's cage. I'll give it a scrub down tomorrow

Hmmm okay I'll see what I think when he gets here. Your cage is really clean in my opinion. My conures make so much mess in only 1 day its unreal. Doesn't help that I have black carpet either

I may do thanks.

After everything I had sent to the person selling him the only reply I got was 'yes he is'. That wasn't too useful. I should have him really soon
