Another offer!

I was offered a dna'd male congo african grey. My local breeder is getting him from her friend (I think another breeder) who lives a good way off from her. She doesnt have him yet so I dont really know anything about him.

I have enough money saved for him, a cage, and some supplies to get me by for a little while (if I can get my parents to "loan" me a little). I have been talking it over with them, more like hinting. I think they would let me get him. The only thing that worries me is we are going on a week long vacation in July. I know a couple people who would come over and feed my other pets. Which arent to hard to care for. I just don't know how the grey would do. It is a possibility that he could come with us, but its an eight hour drive. We are going to the smokey mountains in tennessee. We have been there before and we rent a cabin to stay in. So its kinda like home.

Anyway Ill have to learn more about him. She is supposed to get him sometime this week. Maybe he is right for me. I hope he is a good bird. Oh and I forgot to mention he is four months old. Ill keep you updated. We'll see how things go!

Defo meet him first with the whole family meeting him if possible.

Parrots can be very picky with people and decide right off if they don't like you lol. You don't want to end up with a bird you can't interact with without loosing some skin

Pictures if you get him

I agree, meet the bird first.
My local pet shop do boarding quite reasonable.
Matbe there's someone near you that might do parrot boarding whilst you're on holiday?
Don't pass this opportunity up because of that.
Life doesn't throw these things at you often!
Good luck!

Ok change of plans. Like last time someone beat me to it. BUT whenever it hatches she is getting a week old grey. She is going to raise and wean it. So maybe the other one wasnt right for me. Maybe this one is. By the time it is weaned Ill be a few weeks away from being out of school. So maybe it will work out better that way. Talked to my mom about it. She said yes thats fine with me. So Ill keep talking to the breeder and as soon as she has it Ill go meet it one weekend. Maybe everything will work out.

Here is an update.

It hasnt hatched yet. But I am assuming that it will in the next week or so. I have talked to my parents about it and they are fine with it. My dad told me I really need to think hard about it because it is a big commitment. Which I plan to do. So right now I plan on getting it. I think the breeder know I am interested and I asked her to keep me updated. I will keep you guys updated too.

Thanks everyone.

Thank you! My mom is supposed to call her tomorrow and discuss it with her. It will be a week old so it will have to be weaned. I have about 12 weeks to finish saving up so I think this one is mine.
