So, we went and picked up Sambo (Sam for short) a 35 year old Corella on Friday. He is very aggressive, and he hates everyone besides my mum, but hopefully with lots of time and patience, he will come around. He is quite the vocal boy, and a real chatter box, says heaps of words, and loves dancing, he is such a character and has made us laugh so much in the past 3 days he has been with us.
I got the proper background of him, well according to the girl this is his background – his parents were shot
(according to the girl, it was at Taree here in NSW) and the babies were removed from the nest and hand-raised, the girls father took one of them and hand-raised Sambo himself, and then, 35 years later, her father couldn’t look after him due to being terminally ill and passed him onto his daughter, but she wants nothing to do with Sambo, so she wanted to ‘get rid’ of him.
We are sending off a test for Beak and Feather Disease this week, I have been stressing out about it for the past 3 days to the point where I have made myself sick.. he looks healthy, he has all his down feathers, a powdery beak, and his feet look normal (to me anyway), but someone told me that they can have it and not have any symptoms, so it can be a possibility, especially since he is from the wild, and we have no clue if his parents had it or not.
I have been doing lots of reading, and I am pretty sure he is actually a Western Corella, going by photos he looks like a lot of them.
He is a BIG boy, a lot bigger than Bubby (Galah), at least 3 times bigger, the males reach to 700g apparently.
Here are some photos of him, I will have to get some videos too, as well as a photo of his OLD cage that he was living in which is disgustingly small, and all he had was one swing.
