Goffin Questions

I am absolutely in love with my baby Gofin. He (maybe she) is just over a year. I got him/her about 4 months ago, and Sheldon is def bonded to me. When I first got him he would attempt to talk saying small phrases like Hi, How are you?, and very rare pretty bird. But more recently he has decided not to talk, he vocalizes, by either doing his baby cry or scream. I'm hoping his "talking" will return??? Is there something I can do to get him to talk?

Also...

He seems to be a 1 person bird as well? Is there any way I can get him to "warm" up to my husband? When I'm at work, Sheldon will allow my husband to get him out of his cage and pet him etc. However when I get home, he is "momma's bird" and will either attempt to bite my husband or scream when I am not in eye view. I don't mind the vocalization, my husband on the other hand doesn't care for it. LOL. I ignore the screams figure if I run back to room I'm just enforcing the behavior. Am I right?

I wouldn't know about the talking, I don't think anybody would, as it totally depends on the bird. He may start talking again but he may never do it again if he does talk again, give him LOADS of praise, treats and cuddles etc. and he will probably understand eventually that talking means loadsa good stuff!

I think most birds tend to have their 1 favourite person to be honest and there isn't a lot you can do about it. I would just get him to feed him, clean him out etc. for a little while, or take it in terns with you until he realizes that this guy isn't so bad after all but yeah, running to him when he screams will re-enforce it, as will shouting back, giving any kind of reaction at all haha

ok to help with bonding with your husband your husband will need to take part in training. start target training he touches the end of a stick gently and gets his favorite treat. it will help with bonding with your husband. now when he screams he gets no attention no talking to no seeing you no anything when he is quiet or talking the way you like he gets attention he will figure out when he is not screaming he gets what he wants your attention

I miss his talking, it wasn't that "clear" but it was cute. :-)
Its funny how the bird can manipulate humans, Sheldon is very sweet to my husband when he is the only one home and Sheldon wants something (like to be let out of the cage). But when I get home, my husband is chop liver LOL

LOL, my two cockatiels are the same. They use my husband and son only to get food that they want from their plates, but as soon as they see me, game over. They only want me.
It is kind of cute though, hehe.

Yeah my Sheldon said Hi over the weekend. I was afraid I would never hear his cute little voice. I was informed by my local pet shop that if they go through a molt sometimes they won't talk. Which he was getting quite a few pin feathers in on his head. :-) It was a great moment to hear him :-) (other than his crying)
