Unhappy Pumpkin The Meyers

Is very sad to say that my Pumpkin, my gorgeous & sweet Meyers has passed at such a young age. I am truly devastated!

I noticed one day he was puffy & quieter so I took him to the vet. They ran blood & found him to be systemic so he was put on Baytril. I took him home, put him in a small, very warm room with a litte light & started hand feeding him mash, he did take it but just some. I ended up getting scared one day bc he looked still thin to me so I raced back to the avian vet with him & asked them to keep him for a while, feed him, nurse him back to health. After a few nights, a few grams gained in weight, I took him back home for the weekend. I knew as soon as I saw him, he was not going to make it. I took him home, as soon as he saw me, he tried to feed me. I cried & cried. He died in my arms a half an hr after we got home...oh here come the tears..I'm still not over the loss & it's been months. At least we had a last cuddle, scritch & some kisses. I really miss him. RIP we are so sad without your noises & snuggles.

Here are a couple of pics of him.

I'm sorry for your loss, too. You did all that could have been done. Birds are fragile, as is life. How is the remainder of your flock?

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!

The rest of my flock is doing awesome. I do have a newer member as well that I will have to share.

We don't know what he had. He was about 6 months old. He was tested for all 4 majors so we know he had none of those.

I didn't realize he was THAT young. It must have been a genetic defect of some kind that wouldn't allow him to grow and thrive any longer.

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!

Yeah we (vet) and I think that it could be. I spoke to the breeder about this but she had, or at least, didn't offer any ideas. It's so heart breaking. I've wanted a Meyers for yrs. I am still looking to add one to my family though.

I hope you find a healthy one soon. I would think the breeder would have offered some sort of replacement. After all, you had done all of that veterinary care. It is not as if you didn't do all that could have been done for Pumpkin. But this is why I never made any money raising animals. I always cared about the animals and the buyers.

As you know, Meyers are wonderful, and, again, I hope you can get a healthy one soon.

Thanks Shivani for the awesome siggy!
