Unhappy My beautiful boy passed away

I'm am so beyond upset. I don't know what happened. I came home after being gone all day and my sweet blue was at the bottom of his cage?? I haven't had him long. I know for a fact he was eating, he looked okay! His poops were fine. I just don't get it. I don't use Teflon or burn candles. I'm so at a loss. I'm suppose to be getting my linnie mid feb and this has left me feeling so torn. My poor sweet boy. Breaks my heart. Fly free my sweet budgie!!!

Oh no how terrible! I highly recommend getting a necropsy done before bringing another bird home

What does that entail? I'm gonna look up vets right now.

Oh no, I am so so sorry. Birds are so very good at hiding their illnesses until it is to late. Rip Blue, your Mommy will miss you little one.

Thank you guys! I'm just so upset! I feel so guilty. I can't help it. These little birds are placed in our care and I can't help feel like I did something wrong :-( Maybe he wasn't drinking? I didn't really see him drink.

Kim, my heart goes out to you at this time, as I know the pain of losing a special little friend.

Please let me share this with you:

Remember Our Love

I was chosen today
Iím learning to fly
the world took me away,
but please donít you cry.

And I chose you today
to try and be strong
so please donít you cry
and donít say that Iím gone.

When youíre feeling alone
just remember our love,
Iím near the stars
looking down from above.

Remember our love
In a moment youíll see
that Iím still here beside you
when youíre thinking of me.

Oh no, so sorry for your loss.... Without going into graphic detail, a necropsy is where they do diagnostics to find out why your bird died, by taking samples and such. If you want to do a necropsy, which is always recommended in sudden death cases, it's best you put his body in the refrigerator :/

I'm so terribly sorry for your loss, it's never easy to discover a pet has passed away, especially when it's so sudden. I hope you are able to find some answers

What Jenny said. I have had to do a fair few and it is never easy, but for the sake of your future birds and just general knowing it is essential in my opinion. I really am sorry. It's always worse when you least expect it. My thoughts are with you. Hopefully your linnie will help you heal

And and yes, as said above, they do need to be stored in the fridge in either a container or wrapped well in a bag. Contact a vet and they will sort the rest for you

Thanks you so much guys, your all so thoughtful and helpful. John what a beautiful poem! :-)
I did what Jenny and daisy said and have an appointment today with my vet. How long does it take to get results usually?

Depending on whether or not it is something obvious when they do the necropsy they could call you as soon as they've had a look but if they don't find anything they will offer you the opportunity to send off tissue samples and such to look deeper

Thanks again guys. So I went to the vet, the vet is 100% sure he died of dehydration. I'm so heartbroken, poor little guy, if only I would have known. I asked her is this was common and she said no, not usually. He had 2 different water dishes In his cage, so I don't know? She's gonna contact me with the lab results still as I wanted them sent in.
Ugh, I'm just so sad for him. Poor little blue! :-(

Dear Kim,
I'm so sorry for your loss.
It must have been really shocking for you to find him on the bottom of his cage.
But please don't feel guilty! You are a loving and caring bird mom, and I'm sure if he had shown any sign of not feeling well you would have taken him to the vet.
On the other side of the rainbow bridge he is now sitting and looking at you.

Kim, just as a matter of interest, you say Blue had two different types of water dishes in his cage, were they both the normal type water dish with an open top, or were they the clip on, gravity fed, tubular type like this
