Unhappy Squishee has left us

It would be nice if I could write a positive thread (and I do have plenty coming up not to worry) but unfortunately when living with a large collection of rehomed and rescued animals you do have some fatalities and to help me heal I feel I should share with you guys because other people don't want to know and will give me the 'it's just a [insert species here]' treatment and I can't deal with that. So unfortunately I'm here again to bring bad news

Squishee, the little old disabled Indian ringneck, gave up her fight on Tuesday the 8th early in the morning before I went to work. I have not felt the need to have a necropsy done due to her history and age

If you don't know her story, here's a thread about her from after I got her six months prior ~ https://www.talkparrots.com/14-parrot...py-ending.html

She made a fantastic recovery. She built up strength in her legs so she could climb around and not fall, she ate good food and relished it, she calmed down a little bit and would let me go in to her cage to do my care duties without falling off her perch and screaming and she eventually played with some toys too

Although I am incredibly sad I will no longer hear her little voice and get to see her and know I'm making improvements to her wellbeing, I can't help but feel relieved for her. She's free now and I'm glad I was able to help her in her last year or so. I'm so happy she got to feel love in the end

Hope you got your wings back girl, rest in paradise

I'm so sorry you lost Squishee, she didn't have the best of life before she came to live with you but you changed all that so be happy knowing you gave her everything she ever needed to help her get healthy again. She had you there for her every day giving her all the love she could have right up to the end of her days.

Hugs to you, RIP sweet Squishee.

I can only agree with what has already been said. At least you gave her comfort, love and care for her final time on this earth.

So sorry Daisy. She had a happy couple of years with you, so she was lucky indeed. Thank you for all your work with her.

This story had me almost in tears.
Poor sweet little Squishee. How can anyone be so cruel. So glad she spent her last days loved and I'm sure happiest she had ever been.

Thanks so much everybody, I'm glad I can talk about these sort of things on here and not have somebody insult me because it's a bird. When Hendrix also passed recently, people were saying 'it's just a snake' or 'I can actually come to your house now' and various other incredibly rude things about her. I'm sorry to yet again bring bad news, these guys keep breakin my heart but as much as I say no no I can't rescue any more I find it too heartbreaking I always end up finding somebirdy that needs help. It is so comforting to know that she was finally more comfortable and lived considerably better in the end

I'm so sorry, Daisy, that's so hard.
You did everything you could to help her. But in the end she lost her fight.

Fly free, cute little Squishee, now you can fly free again.

I am so sorry to hear of Squishee passing over, I really am.

It always hurts when we temporarily have to say goodbye to a beloved bird/best friend/family member.

Please try to console yourself with the fact that you rescued Squishee and that your life, not to mention hers, changed so much for the better.

It's times like these when I wonder who rescued who...

I know that your heart is aching now, but please don't give up on rescuing birds who might need rescuing. We've rescued birds, too, and have lost them, and our hearts seemingly broke. Hearts patched together after a time.

Rescuers are special people.

You'll see your beloved Squishee again when it's time, I know you will. Meanwhile, I have a sneaking suspicion that she may be flying around happily on the other side with some of her many flying friends, including some she may know from this forum.

Wing hugs.

Thank you very much for your kind words! I don't think I'll give up rescuing or rehoming birds that need help. Most of my guys are rehomes
