Domino

I know i don't post much and specifically about my budgies much. Domino, my female budgie, was sick and last night she wasn't doing very well. I knew she wasn't going to last much longer and i decided against taking her to the vet for multiple reasons which i won't go into. Basically though i felt she would be better off with her last moments with her mate instead of a stressful one hour plus bus ride to the avian vet to put her down. I figured she would pass in the night, but when i woke up this morning she was still there, i had to go to school of course though although i cut the last class and went home to check on her and she was gone. Ever since i took the body out her mate has been calling for her. While i'm sad about her death and everything, im more worried about her mate how he'll make due now that she's gone. They've been together since i brought them a few years ago from the pet store.

R.I.P. Domino, Fresca is going to miss you.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Meghan My Loki was the same way when Mizu passed, he contact called all day looking for her... I got him a new friend as soon as I could and that really seemed to help. My condolences to you and Fresca

I'm sorry for your loss.

Do you maybe have any idea what she passed away from? It might be a good idea to take Fresca in for a general health check-up at the avian vet in case it was a contagious illness.

I recently lost three budgies, one after the other, from a contagious illness.

I've been dealing with some health, school and personal issues for the past few months and i have been incredibly busy. There aren't many good avian vets where i live. The closest is a good 45 minute drive, over an hour bus ride away and it's not in the greatest area of town. I didn't notice that she was feeling worse until later on last night when the vets are all closed and plus i felt that it would have be best to just keep her with her mate in an un stressful environment rather than calling the vet at night and bussing and transferring and not to mention the weather being so cold. There is a 24 hour vet that is even farther away from the avian vet and it is very expensive i can't afford it, it's triple the price of a regular vet and i don't even know if they take exotics. None the less the decision was made to keep her in a warm envronment with her love. He sang to her and chattered to her all night and when i came home from school early and found her at the bottom he was quiet. As soon as i took her body out, Fresca started calling for her.

It wasn't a contagious illness.

I am sorry for your loss. I understand about the vet situation. We have no Avain vet here either, and the closest is a four hour drive each way. It does make things difficult at times....

Poor little bird.
It's good that you let her spend her last moments with her mate, I'm sure she was thankful for that.
