Felix is gone....

So I haven't been on the forum for some time, mainly because Felix passed away :\ He was sitting on his stand downstairs that sits on the counter. And i was doing dished, and my dog was begging to go outside to do to the bathroom. So I took him out real quick and came back. And i guess Felix tried to tag along. But landed in the soapy water and couldn't get out. I was only gone for 5 minutes. But i was too late ): I still beat up and broke up about it. He was only 9 months. I feel like i failed as a parent to him. I loved him so much.

i lost an 18 month old cag, who got out the back door. she was going to land on my shoulder with the door open and i had bent down and out the door she went. we found her on the ground the next day, she died on the way to the vets.

its hard, but its an accident. remember that as you grieve. don't let guilt eat you up. it won't change a thing, as i well know, but its human nature to feel it. took me over 2 yrs to forgive myself.

So sorry to hear about Felix Things like this is why I never take my birds in the bathroom or kitchen. Having said that there are still a million other ways they can still get into trouble! Accidents can and do happen and your not the first and you wont be the last either. All I can do is say how sorry I am for your loss and I hope you come to terms with it soon x

I am so sorry for your loss! Over 20 years ago I had a bird drown in the toilet. So I can understand the guilt. All I can say is time does heal. My heart goes out to you. Hugs!

I just wish something would've gone differently, I wish I could've saved him. He was my first bird and definitely my best friend.

I remember how much you wanted him and how hard you looked to find him... Such a sad ending for you, my family always calls me paranoid cuz I holler about shutting the bedroom door when the ceiling fan is on and flighted birds are out... Or to shut the door going to the hall before opening the outside door... No birds out of cage when anyone is cooking etc... Your to over protective I am told...they are fine they say... Humor me I tell them back... It is not a hard thing to do and if it makes me feel better, then why not!! But even I, with all my paranoia about my birds, would never of thought he would drown in the dish water... I have my birds with me often while doing dishes and even sometimes when we are done I will put a short plastic dish in the sink with the water dribbling in one corner and let the bird play in it.
Please don't let this stop you from getting another bird.. It was a tragic freak accident... They're many birds out there in need of great birdie homes like yours. I hope you are doing ok , I am sure it must of been a horrible shock to you .... So sad....

I am so sorry for your loss. It's all very sad. When the time is right, you should get another feathery friend as you are a good owner, it was just an unfortunate accident. It could happen to any of us.

Definitely don't blame yourself. I lost Apple, my first GCC, from an accident. It was awful, and I completely understand how you feel. But honestly, there are SO MANY things that can happen to a bird, in or out of the cage, that can lead to injury or death. We can do things to keep them safe but it's impossible to prevent everything. I'm so sorry to hear this happened, RIP.
