Kakariki diet

Hi all,

Wondered if anyone can advise me my kak, George is fed on a mixture of cockatiel seed and fruity parrot dried food and I offer fresh fruit and veg twice a day, of which he seems to pick the fruit out and leave the veg the seeds he seems to pick out one or two varieties and leave the rest, resulting in a lot of waste, is there other food I can try him on as he seems very fussy....he also loves dried chilli seeds can I give him fresh chillis cut open so he can eat the seeds raw is this ok for him as I can also make it fun by putting veg and other stuff ontop and he seems to love forreging through to get the seeds???? Any help greatfully accepted?? X

I wouldn't mix your seeds in with your veggies because he will always pick the seeds I recommend feeding him on chop. You basically make a large batch up and then freeze portions. For a kakariki you can freeze them in an icecube tray so he gets a small portion every day and will waste very little. On top of that you can give him whole fruits and such cut up, and veggies etc. Kakarikis are usually very accepting, but carrots are always a favourite! And yes birds absolutely love chilies. They don't feel the heat like we do, they just enjoy the taste (wish I could say the same about myself, I'm rubbish with spices). As for your seed mixes, the standard cockatiel mixes are veeerrrrrry boring. They're usually just millet seeds with a few sunflower seeds thrown in

For a seed mix I recommend this ~ http://scarlettsparrotessentials.co....arrot_seed_5kg

Also look into NutriBerries and AviCakes. As a treat that is I don't have a single bird who won't eat them

Another thing is to feed all of your fresh produce in the morning, they will be most hungry then and more likely to eat it
