Oliver helps make a new batch of bird bread

This is my same base recipe that I have posted in the past, the only thing I changed was substituted red pepper, cilantro, and herbs, for sprout salad (from whole foods store), dandelion greens, 1 tbsp pine nuts & sunflower seeds, and one date.

Here is the original recipe posted to the forum. Items with an * were substituted as mentioned above.
Recipe Red Pepper & Cilantro Bird Bread:
1/2 cup pellets
1/2 cup spelt flour (you can use any flour you want)
1 jar of baby food (squash, yams, or carrots)
1/4 cup parakeet seed
1/2 cup diced red pepper & cilantro*
1 egg without shell
1/4 cup water
1 tsp of red palm oil
A few tbsps of fresh herbs*

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Let all of the wet ingredients soak with the pellets to soften them while you cut up the vegetables and prepare everything else. I spread some red palm oil in a 9 by 9 glass pan prior to pouring the mixture into the pan to prevent the bread from sticking. Cook for 45 minutes and test the center with a toothpick. If need be, return for increments of 5 minutes. Let cool, cut and separate pieces. You can then throw them into a freezer bag and take out enough pieces at a time for a weekly amount for your fids.

Here are some pictures of Oliver helping make it . I love this recipe because it is easy enough (not too many ingredients) and the amount isn't so much either, so it allows for more variety for the birds because you'll go through it quicker.

Let's put the dry stuff together:

Add in the soaked pellets (in water and baby food), flour, and egg:

In pan for baking and then 45 minutes later, wah la!

Oliver looks like a good little helper. Are you going to next bird show in Pomona? I think end of June?

I probably will yes. Will you be going?

How'd it go with you having to leave your house with the birds? Did you ever end up using a petsitter?

Thank Ktyne and SoCalTiels. Yes the birds love it. I make this same base every time. I just change the veggies I use and occasionally I will change the flour type and/or baby food flavor for variety.

Yes, I plan to go. We should try to meet. I'm probably going early since it will be pretty warm by end of June. Miss Kauai FINALLY hopped on that tree brand play area that we both bought.
The birds were fine at the hotel (I'm back in my condo today). It was probably hardest for Miss Chanel. I know she wanted to come out, but you know how linnies poop. They are at my neighbors for the night, just to make sure the toxic gas is out of the condo. Miss Chanel has the bald look and scratching again around her eye, so I have an appt on Friday for her vet to check it. It's quiet and lonely without them, but I know if is for the best.

I am glad it worked out even tho it sounds like it was quite difficult. Yes we should try to meet up. I usually go with my Dad and or my sister, as long as you don't mind. I ususlly get there about 930, 10. I thought of you recently because my sister is getting bug spray outside her house. Did they ever say what was wrong with Miss Chanels eye? Let us know how it goes.
