Buying Seed/Pellets

Can those of you who attend Bird Fairs tell me if buying seed/pellets there is a better deal than ordering online? I have never been to a Bird Fair yet but if purchasing bird food there is cheaper I would make an effort to get to one.

I have never ordered any food online yet because the shipping costs seem so high even tho the seeds/pellets seem to be a good price. Right now I buy my Parakeet and Finch seed locally.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I buy online - if you catch the deals right, shipping isn't bad at all. I don't know how big your flock is, but I buy in bulk, 10lb bags, and freeze the rest. Often times, if you buy over a certain price (for example, $60) you get flat rate shipping. Which drops the shipping down from $20 to $5.95. Also, I wait for seasonal sales and get 10% off too Also, if you join Avian Advantage Network, it's I think $15 or $20 for a lifetime membership, many vendors post special deals and coupons there too!

I usually get my pellets locally. One bird store carries Roudybush in bulk. So for $3.49 a pound it is a good deal.

I love the bird fairs for TOYS, TOYS and more TOYS.

I used to buy my conures food from the local pet store and everything else from the auction I go to. I get fairly big bags of budgie, parakeet and foreign finch food for like 1 each, and huge bags of millet etc etc. That's like a one off thing though and I don't think they go anywhere else. I feed my green cheek, green cheek x maroon bellied hybrid and red-fronted kakarikis on Rob Harvey's Parrot Premium Plus. Usually its like really expensive but there was a stand at the national exhibition and they sold all bags. I got a bag half the size of my self which usually costs about 60 for like 25!! I haven't even made a dent in it yet and I use it every day!

Thanks for all your replies everybody. I live in too rural an area so there is not a whole lot of choice for buying bird seed. I will have to do some online searching for seed deals. If I could get the flat rate shipping like Jenny mentioned that might be the best way to go. Being I only have the one budgie and 8 finches right now I don't need all that much but as I increase my flock It would make sense to buy in bulk. Guess I better get busy and find some more birdies!

Sounds like a good plan! Let's see... my 10lb bag feeds 2 parrotlets, a cockatiel, and 2 linnies so you need 4 more small parrots to share the food with your budgie!

Since I have so many birds I went online to find the best prices. For the last year I've been buying from birdieboutique.com. I buy the Volkman's Super Science seeds for all my birds and then locally buy Zupreem pellets.

If you are interested they just sent me a coupon code for checkout that saves $5 on a $25 order, $10 on a $50 order and so on. I can post the codes if you want them.

They are a great company and even with shipping it's cheaper for me than trying to find quality seeds at a pet store locally.

Thanks for the offer Brittney but I think I will wait a bit. I have plenty of seed right now. But I will check out their site.

Well, bird fairs are good enough. It's so fun to see different products but one thing about them is you don't have to pay shipping if you get it there. Always check the expiration date though.
