Question Are these okay to give as treats?

I always make homemade treats for my dogs and they are very healthy and just a few simple ingredients, are my Green cheek conures allowed to have all these ingredients? Obviously I only intent on giving them as treats and not a steady food. (I used apples and i know my two baby's love apple)

Recipe:
1 cup finely diced apples (or any fruit you like)
1 cup oatmeal
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 cup flour
Bake Time:
Preheat oven to 350
Bake for 25 minutes

This sounds like a good recipe it reminds me of some birdy bread package mixes you can buy and make for your birds. Just make sure you don't have any apple seeds in the mix as this is dangerous for your bird.

Here's an older post with a birdy bread recipe in it, you might get a few ideas to add things to your recipe to mix it up a little.

Let us know how your GCC ends up liking your treat we always like to hear success stories when people go out of their way to make foods for their birds.

Oh, and Welcome to the forum.

Hi , i used to give the apple core to my African Grey regularly , he used to enjoy ripping it apart to get to the seeds and it never did him any harm ...

Apple seeds in large moderation are toxic to most animals including dogs and birds. I already knew this (but thank you) I never use the core of the apple because lets face it, it's gross and doesn't hold many benefits. I only use the "flesh" of the apple and my birds did like it and my dogs of course loved the treats! I would recommend making them, they are so simple. It only took me 5 minutes to prep everything then I just baked them for 25 minutes and let them cool down. I also have lots of stuff left to make many more when the time comes to restock on them. So much cheaper than buying treats and you get more for your buck.
