Smile Zazzy tried some of the food I cooked for the birds today!

Zazzy is a 7-8 y.o. Quaker parrot who was only fed the WalMart brand parrot mix her whole life. I'm introducing her to pellets and the good brand seeds I order in. She has been slow to try cooked foods I make for all the birds.

I've been eating lunches and dinners while she's sitting on my shoulder when I can. She has been nosey and trying a little bit of what I'm eating while I'm putting it to my mouth.

Today when I got up I made all the birds cous cous made with chicken broth, mixed with brown rice, oatmeal, and carrot/sweet potato baby food. I put it to my mouth and acted like I was eating it and she went crazy over it when she tried it. I went and brought a bowl to the couch with us and she ate while I held the bowl.

I'm super excited she's eating food I'm cooking now. I'm hoping she'll try some scrambled eggs next.

Yay! That's really exciting. A long time ago, My budgies refused to eat anything but seed, and it was so frustrating! So when they finally started eating other stuff, I felt so accomplished.
It's unfortunate that all that bird had to eat was WalMart seed for so many years, I'm happy you are finally changing that.

I never knew you could feed baby food!

Congrats though. It is so rewarding!

When I'm cooking something and want to "sneak" some veggies or fruits they don't normally eat I add some baby food to the birdy bread or cous cous mix I make. Mine are not big on fruits so I usually add apples, banana or pear flavor baby food to things. Bird mamas have to be sneaky.
