Refrigerating food for Conure

Hi all,

First time Conure owners and we just wondered what types of foods it is okay to refrigerate (etc)?

Mostly we were curious whether we could store cooked sweet potato (and other types of cooked fruit/veggies) for a few days in the fridge since one conure won't get through very much and we don't wanna be cooking the same types of food too frequently.

Any other general advice and recommendations on cooking and storing food would be awesome, and any general pitfalls we should avoid as new conure owners, as we have only had tiels and budgies in the past.

Many thanks!

Vini and Chris

Hi Chris and Vini welcome to Talk Parrots.

You can easily store fresh chop and fruits and veggies in the fridge for a few days and you can also freeze chop. A lot of members who have a few birds make a mix of chop and freeze small amounts in an ice cube tray. They remove a few cubes and let it thaw in the fridge covered in a tupperware dish.

There is an interesting set of recipes and how to store fresh chops in this LINK!

More Info Here!

Check it out and see all the great things you can offer your bird and how to store the recipes.

HOW long will your frozen chop last in the fridge? Just 1 day or two?

Fresh chop will stay fresh 3 days in the fridge.

I take chop from a cube tray in the freezer and will use it for 2 days when its thawed. I would never feed it to the birds by the 3rd day and would throw it away instead.
