Galah prefers fresh foods !

Hi I have a 9 month old Galah cockatoo, I've had her since 3 months of age , i gave her a huge variety of vegetables, beans ,pasta , and green leafy salad like spinach, kale etc the thing is I have also got her eating Tops pellet food but my question is she prefers fresh food over everything else and will hang out until I give it to her instead of pellets being her main staple my homecooked beans and vegetables are , pellets are merely a snack every once in a while and now seeds she won't even bother with although I still give her some , I feel that she is actually eating too much fresh foods but she just loves it and sees it as her lifesource of nutrition, is this acceptable diet ? She is my first ever cockatoo and I do give her a huge variety and occasionally make a chop but she prefers larger pieces of veg to munch up and to be honest she eats most everything I give her ! Any advice please ?

Isn't it funny that a lot of bird owners try to desperately get their birds to eat fresh foods and their birds ignore it and here you have a lovely bird that loves fresh foods!

Offer your galah nuts like almonds pecans and walnuts to give her proteins and healthy fats. Keep offering pellets and maybe some millet stalks as I don't know many birds that ignore millet. You can also wash rinse and make your birds seeds grow into sprouts and offer this to your bird so she will get some seeds into her diet too.

Galah's can eat the tops of beet greens, romaine lettuce, spinach and swiss chard and you can offer the bird a chop which is made from fresh veggies like yams or sweet potatoes carrots broccoli and more. You can add a hard boiled egg to the chop mixture giving more protein to the meal.

I know many people sprout beans and lentils that we use in soups and stews to feed their birds as well. So check around and I'm sure you will find many recipes to add these things to chop mixes or even birdy bread.

I'm happy your bird enjoys a fresh diet, I'm sure the rest of us who have fussy birds who ignore a fresh diet are envious.
