Storing Bird Seed

How do you store your bird seed? I read that once you open a bag of seed you should not reseal it as seed contains moisture and once exposed to the air and not allowed to breathe it can grow a fungus which can make your bird VERY sick.

So how do you safely store your birds seed?

I store most of my bird seed in a dark metal container in a new clean plastic bag I buy for food storage. I keep the container in the cupboard furthest from the stove or heat sources.

I use to keep my seeds in smaller new plastic bags in the freezer which was great because it keeps pantry moths weevils and other household bugs from infecting the seeds and laying eggs in it. You just have to remember to take out a small bag of seeds so they can warm up to room temperature before you need to feed them to your bird.

I personally keep my seed in it's original bag inside a pet food storage container. I don't seal the bag as the container has a seal, then I also keep it in my Spare bedroom closet. My Bird is in my spare bedroom, but the seed is kept in the closet.
