Switching to a healthier diet?

So Buddy was not on the best diet. He was on a seed mix and table food and lots of treats...he does not eat pellets.

I bought Roudybush for him..he won't eat it. He won't eat greens...sometimes will eat carrots, sometimes will eat yam, sometimes apple, sometimes pine nuts and cashews. He will always take pasta (not cooked or cooked), granola and of course his seed mix.

And what is a serving size for a CAG? It seems a lot of food is going to waste because he won't eat it. I've mixed some seeds into his pellets that I leave in his cage all day, but he will pick out the seeds, and leaves the pellets. I have crushed the pellets into his yams...then he won't eat his yams. I'm at a loss, and I sure don't want him to starve.

I have a feeling that the state of his feathers is due to his diet.

I need help please.

Dawn

a good way to get birds to try new things is if you eat it infront of them and make a big deal about it

You can also make birdy bread and put pellets in it. I have a great recipe if you need one.

I've tried the eating things in front of him...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Just got him to eat some canned peas...pretty sure those aren't so good for him, but he's eating something green at the moment.

I would love a recipe! Thank you!

Have a look on the diet n nutrition section of the forum, Casey makes great cookies you can put pellets in and I show the meals I make for my fids! They're really useful, promise!

canned peas can have added salt, so if you get the no salt added stuff, it shouldn't be bad.
Hector doesn't eat pellets unless I very lightly soak them in water first.
Add pellets, add like 1/2 tsp of water to the dish, swirl around for 60 seconds, then pour off the excess water.

He'll then tear up the pellets quite a bit, like he only wants to eat the center (like a seed), but he is eating them. (zupreem veggie-blend pellets, parrot size)

Thanks. He ate some pellets soaked in orange juice. Love orange juice. I'm trying some pellets soaked in apple juice today. We'll see how that goes.

Last night made some lentils and split peas. He had some for breakfast this morning with his yam and bananas. I just put some veggies, red and yellow pepper, snap peas and I think there is a celery piece in there. I hear him munching on something...not sure what though. Sometimes he stops eating when I go in the dining room or he'll drop whatever he was munching on.

I'll go check out the recipes. I'm compiling a big list...gonna have to get a binder for them all! LOL
