I have a green cheek conure, Stella, who is 1 year and 9 months old. (are there smilies for conures?! Can't find it!) Every once in a while when she's really comfortable on my shoulder, tangled in my hair (which she loves), she'll make little growling/squeak noises, raise her tail slightly and get fluffy. I'm pretty sure this is hormonal behaviour.
Any suggestions on how to discourage it? I'm thinking she might be stimulated by the hair on her back? Maybe? I've heard of reducing her light hours to eight hours a day only. Anything else to suggest? I preen her head, but I don't pet her back/rump - I read that's sexually stimulating for a parrot.
