Wow - that's fascinating. I remember reading about the experiments with song birds in college. Makes me wish I had finished my Bio degree and gone into research as I was planning. Stupid chemistry lol

Krikkit the Conure has been trying so earnestly to learn to speak Budgie -- I wish I had some way of telling whether she's actually getting anywhere in her attempts to communicate with the mini-flock.

I sure hope she's getting something out of it -- a conure trying to modify her primal air-horn squalls into shrill bursts of high-pitched warbling is one of the most cacophonous things imaginable!

-- mf

PS: She's been expelling a spate of entirely new noises since I started playing a CD of Pixies mash-ups 20 minutes ago -- have researchers said anything about birds learning new calls from indie-rock bands?
