Question Advice needed

I have fairly recently adopted a Sun Conure by the name of Phoenix. Well I renamed him and he seems to be accepting his new name. I've had him for about a week, roughly.

I have tried to bond with him, it seems to be going well one minute and then the next he's getting nippy and annoyed. He's roughly about a year old, and the person I adopted him was a nanny for several younger children. He doesn't seem to like to be touched, I think part of that is he is moulting. At first he didn't seem to be aggressive, he gave me love nibbles and still takes treats from my hand with out biting me, but most of the time now he's nippier and more possessive of his toys, not necessarily his cage.

I know what's changed is we got him one of those snuggle huts as they are called, and he seems to enjoy having it as well as a swing, which he uses as a chew toy rather than a swing.

But he enjoys me reading to him and when I play him music. He will also flap his wings (which are unclipped) and look in my direction whenever I'm in the room but not next to his cage.

I have tried a few training exercises I have read online and he doesn't seem to like them. Although he does have a healthy appetite for food and climbing around his cage.

I don't know what to do, he seems to be sending me mixed signals, and I'm confused. I hate it when a human sends mixed signals let alone a bird.

He may be going through puberty and is also confused biologically, as well as living in a new place with new routines. One of our birds made through puberty fine and one was a biting bugger.

The thing is, don't get mad at him, but have lots of patience, be consistent with gentle training and give him lots of love and you will end up with a great bird friend. Hth
