What is my conure saying when she does this?

So my new conure, Pineapple, does this funny thing ALL the time. She sort of flattens herself on her perch, and her wings quiver. She makes a quiet, low noise sort of like "erh, erh" while doing it. It almost looks like she's going to take off and fly, but she doesn't. She does it on the perch near her cage door when I'm close by, and also on her playstand when I walk away/am on the other side of the room.

What is this called, and what does she want?

she is probably wanting to fly to you but sort of hesitating. I have a right laugh at Dexter when he does it. He also does it for food

Ahhh okay :P It says nothing in my conure books about it, and all I found online is that it's a "begging behaviour". I also asked on Yahoo Answers, and I got two people says that she wants to 'mate'. That doesn't seem right to me though

She also bobs her head before & after doing it, so I'm guessing it's a happy/excited/pay attention to me please/give me a treat! sort of deal

Yeah sometimes it can be an indication that they wanna mate but usually I find that they just wanna fly over

Might be a mating ritual. My female GCC sometimes does it too.

Libby does that too, quite a bit in fact. It always looks like she's going to take off, but doesn't. She does it just as you describe it. I've often wondered what was going on. My Hahn's Macaw has never done that (I've only had her 3weeks), so maybe it's a GCC thing!

I don't know for sure because I don't have a gcc, but birds are so silly it could mean anything!

Fred does that too, whenever he's trying to tell me something. Sometimes I figure out what he wants, sometimes not...

It sounds like this behavior is pretty common, so I wonder why the books don't mention it?

If she looks cute and smart when she bobs, that's "I wanna dance!" If she has her beak open wide and looks incredibly goofy, that's a mating display. At least for Krikkit.
