Lightbulb Conure bed time tantrum

Ok do ive had my sunny for three days now. Im well aware of how loud they can squawk and deafen you lol. So far my boy is very well behaved unless he is hungry or tired. Now when he is sleepy I put him to be, usually 6pm give or take. Ive always covered my birds and I do with this littlr man but OMG does he scream when I cover him. He really hates being covered. Is this normal? I still cover him put the radio on very low and close the door but it takes him a few minutes of pure screaming to settle. Am I doing this right? Other yhen our night time issue he is perfect !! So glad I got him, and hubby is fine with his crazy loud squawk, he doesnt really make much noise but. We have him in our living room free ranging most of the day. His new cage is hreat. Oh and how do conures and teils get along??

With my conures I have for them each a sleeping cage. All the cages are already half covered up before I put them in the cage. Try and half cover up the cage first then put your conure in.

From what I've experienced when my conures were young their vocals are not as loud or as long, as they get older their vocal cords strengthened and can scream loud and sometimes for hours

You mentioned closing a door...Is it a sleep room your birds? I have mine in a sleep room, where I close blinds, and there are no interruptions for them until morning. I don't cover any of the cages...in fact, I have a small solar operated nightlight, as it helps with night frights. I find that most of my birds HATE to be covered.

Mine is noisy when I first cover him. He's like the little kid who doesn't want to go to bed. He settles down quick enough and then makes little grumbling noises and grinds his beak. I cover him because the house gets cold at night. Once he settle down he's fine until morning although sometimes I can hear him playing and ringing his bell.

Instead of covering up the cage you could try adding a sleeping hut/cosy hut for him.

Cricket isn't a sunny but a green cheek, it seems like he gets pretty darn talkative after i put his cover on. He doesn't scream though. I have heard some sunnys on you tube and wow! As beautiful as they are, Migraines and Sunnys don't belong together!

Does he have a sleep tent/happy hut? Maxx takes a few naps in his each day. At 8p he will climb in it for the night. I usually cover his cage sometime after that. He now says "Nite Nite" when I am covering him up. He doesn't make a peep until I uncover him at 7 the next morning.

Those huts are amazing. My birds LOVE them! Couldn't recommend them enough. Maybe he just really dislikes his cage being covered?

Sleepy huts can sometimes encourage cage aggression. I'm not sure if a Sun Conure would be prone to be cage aggressive. I'd just close the blinds to darken the room, and close the door.

I don't cover my birds cages and they have a night light - it helps keep them from having night frights, which has been a problem in the past. You don't HAVE to cover your birds, especially if he's in a sleep room where he's not disturbed.
