lenny made me happy!

so in todays training session, i decided to do something different. instead of using my "scary" hand to try and make comfortable around i used a perch!! Genius ! with the millet being there he got on 3 times (!) with breaks in between. he will only get on when ha is on the left side of the cage and not the right (next to his big mirror which i am thinking about taking out). soon he will be out of the cage and more intense bonding will take place!

my only fear with using the perch rather than my finger, is that he might not be as bonded to me be cause just having him sit on the perch eating millet kind of makes it so that i'm 'not in the picture' and he doesnt pat attention to me. anyone train the 'all perch" way?

That's great that he stepped up on to the stick. My personally favourite method is to do the pushing the stick on the belly gently until they step up. Over time they do it automatically. I've done it with every one of my birds and now they all come on to my hands

The perch is a great way to start! Let him get used to that and in no time he will be on your hand.

update:
so we had another training session and Lenny is doing great! if i wanted to get him out of the cage i could, but i thought it was still too soon . i believe he will still bond with me while using this method. and the best part is that butch got one foot on the perch!!! You go Butch and Lenny!!!!!!!

I'm glad things are going well for you. I am also using this perch method with my Tigger.
