Need advice on training new sun conure

Ive only had him a few days.He will take a treat out of my hand but sometimes just drops it.He will not come out of his cage although he begs at the door like he wants out.Not really sure what he is begging for actually, might be for his former owner.

So I want to clicker train him but am unsure how to start. He has some crummy bird seed mix for food right now.Should I pull out all the sunflower seeds for treats?
I dont really know what his favorite is yet except peanuts but he only takes those half heartedly.(I know they are bad but its what the former owner gave him and ive not started changing his diet yet).

Should I just wait a week or two till he is more comfortable to start any training? He doesnt trust me yet so should I just work on that first before any clicker training?

if he will take the sun flower from you then yes use it for only treats i would start with him getting use to you then add the clicker when he does something good click then give him a treat once he get the hang of that start target training he touches the end of a stick gentle he gets a click and a treat. also try pine nuts my grey loves them

Okay.I actually spent two hours last night sorting his seed mix.
This stuff is awful, its mostly whole corn and sunflower seeds. The rest is little seeds and a handful of various colored pellets and whole peanuts.
Anyway it gave me something to do while I sat here and watched Firefly reruns.

I am having the same trouble..I can clean the cage and i can feed him with my hands but you let me try and pet him and ohhhhhhhhhhh no way..I am going to get some treats and try to do the clicker training..If i can get him out of the cage to see how he is going to react..I think the longer we wait for them to come out the harder it is going to be..keep us posted and I will let you know how my idea turns out. lol
Good luck....

Some birds just do not tolerate petting, my GCC craves it, my tiel loves it on her head but hates having her wings or tail touched and my parrotlet will not tolerate it unless he is distressed then he whimpers like a puppy and cuddles up for a snuggle... My budgies are all pretty much hands off.
