Teaching Peaches sign language.

My new G2 is settling in nicely. He has not had any behavior problems besides being a little nippy on occassion.

Because he is settling in so nicely I have been working on teaching him sign language. It is working amazingly well, and is learning it so fast. Within about 4 days he learned that when I put my palm in front of him and curl the tips of my fingers that i want him to put his head down so I can give him scratches.

We have also started learning that when I make the letter J in sign language that I want him to lift his crest. He is doing that about 75% of the time. But we also just started this one about two days ago.

The next one I plan on teaching him is to lift his wings by placing my hand with my palm down, and tilting my finger tips up.

Some other exciting new though, I learned from his previous owners that I can take him out without a harness. My boyfriend and I tested this, He behaved so well, not leaving my shoulder for a second.

Hand signals are a good way of communicating with any animal luckily, they give them visual cues is the bird clipped? A strong bit of wind can take any bird away, regardless of whether they're clipped or not (properly clipped birds still fly) so please be extremely careful taking him outside without one. Apparently my clipped cockatoo likes to go outside and is clipped but I don't think I'll be giving it a go!
