Max snuggles under my hair...

My yellowsided conure, who is now almost 5 months old, will come to me just to nap. He will snuggle under my hair or close to my neck and nap there! This is fine when I'm sitting at the computer or watching tv but it's a different story if I'm doing housework: It's quite a task trying to let Max sleep as I am vacuuming, lol
I have been debating whether to get Max a sleeping tent for the night so that he can get better rest (he currently sleeps on a branch in his cage). I have read, though, that they can be dangerous.
I wonder if he sees me just as a comfortable place to nap or if he's just bonded with me?

If he is sleeping on you like that, I would say he is both very comfortable there and bonded! He clearly feels very safe with you! As far as the sleeping tent goes...my p'let has one that he will run through during little temper tantrums or to wipe things off his beak on but other than that doesn't use it much...he's a boy though! I know if I gave one to my female lovebird she would be more cage aggressive than she already is! I doubt GCC get nearly that bad though, especially if Max is a boy. As far as "dangerous" (unless you mean cage-aggression) I'm not sure what you mean though.

The quaker I am bird sitting loves her little tent. Naps and sleeps in it. It really depends on the bird. I can not give one to Topaz it turns her into a monster. lol

Thanks! I refer to Max as a "boy" but he's not DNA'd. I have read that these tents can be dangerous if any threads become loose, etc.

Do they spend a lot of time in them or do they just sleep in them?

I would certainly not give one to my lovebird since she's always looking for a place to nest, lol

I have heard of birds chewing and then getting caught in and dieing in them.. So if your bird is a chewer I would not give one... I think it all depends on the bird.

That was one of my concerns.

It is cute and adorable. At first I was concerned that he was not getting enough sleep... Now, thanks to your input, I know it's just a bonding "thing".
