What is she doing? (Senegal)

My baby Senegal is doing great. I have her cage set up so that when the door is open, she can climb from the open door onto my computer desk, and she likes to do so, then over to me, onto my arm and up to my shoulder.

She is very friendly and sweet, not at all nippy (I'm crossing my fingers that this stays the case) or moody.

But for the last couple of days she has been sort of... gently pecking? At my cheek. It doesn't seem threatening or anything, and it certainly doesn't even begin to hurt. But it seems that she is trying to communicate something by this.

Also, just today when she is in the same mood when she does the fake pecking thing, she is clacking her beak at me? It is a bunch of beak-clacks all together. And just now, in midst-clack she made a sound that I haven't heard before. It almost sounded like an attempt at imitating human speech, but I couldn't tell what she was trying to say.

Sounds like she's happy, relaxed, and trying to preen/snuggle you to me The clicking the beak, is she fluffed and kinda sleepy when she does it? It could be beak grinding, which most birds do when they're content and ready for bed!

No, she does grind her beak when she is sleepy, but this is different. It is definitely best described as clacking her beak at me.

Hmm. It could just be a behavior she learned, maybe mimicking kissy noises? Not too sure! Sorry I can't be of more help!

Roni makes a lot of clicking noises. I think those are natural senegal noises, but I can't be certain because I can't really hear Eko, but that is my guess. Roni also practices her human speech a lot before really saying something, and I'd guess your gal is doing the same.

I agree she sounds very relaxed. Roni has a habit of grabbing my face with her beak. It has never hurt, but I'm still worried that I should stop it now in case it later becomes something else, but she is so gentle it also seems a shame to stop her, so I've been trying to figure out what to do about that.

Nanay, that's funny, that is exactly how I feel about it.

Although, earlier she was mad at me for not holding her sooner, so she was testy and on my shoulder. For some reason, she got it in her mind that she was going to be... territorial? Something like that, about my shoulder. So, every time I would turn my head to look at her, she would let out a tiny, almost inaudible hiss and sort of point an open beak at my cheek or eye.

She got over that quickly though, when I sort of gently made a hissing sound and gently put a finger on her forehead, all at the same time, just as she was doing her "defending" of my shoulder for the second time. It was purely reflex on my part, I don't have the illusion of being the Bird Whisperer or something

But it worked, and she stopped being testy too. Without any fear or anything like that either, so I think that it was a success?
