Exclamation Important announcement

Alright everyone - we have now had 2 threads where people have been antagonistic, argumentative, and just plain rude. The mod staff has been polite and made warnings to everyone so far, because we trust in YOU, as members of a united and friendly community, to listen to those warnings and refrain from those sorts of behaviors. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case, so the issue needs to be addressed.

I understand people will have differing opinions on things here on the forum - it's only natural. Friendly debate and discussion is welcomed and encouraged, as is constructive criticism. However, there is no reason for arguments and childish behavior as has been occurring lately. This is not directed at any one member either - so please don't take this the wrong way.

For a refresher on proper behavior on the forum, I highly encourage everyone to re-read the rules here on the forum:

https://www.talkparrots.com/misc.php?do=showrules

Please help us keep this a friendly community where everyone feels welcome. Any further insults or arguments that do not stop after moderator intervention will result in infractions and potential temporary bans. We do not want to resort to this Please help us out, guys, we don't want to have to start issuing infractions.

Sorry to start an issue. But i'm sure you as a mod understad how frustrating it is when someone has wrong information and won't listen to anyone. I'll try to avoid threads that annoy me

Thanks Becca!

I understand everyone got frustrated on both sides - I don't blame you guys at all It's not the argument that's a problem. If members have a disagreement on how to care for birds or information, it's fine - it's bound to happen. As long as it remains a civil debate, rather than devolving into an argument where no one is listening, it's fine and encouraged

The open exchange of ideas and thoughts is the whole purpose of a forum and it's what we want here. As moderators, we don't look at the content of the thread and what's being argued, per se, rather we look at how people are arguing and the attitudes they're taking. If it had stayed at the level of "listen, they live this long and my proof is here [link]" then it would have been just fine and encouraged - education and an argument with factual proof, rather than emotions or attitude, is completely fine. It's when it gets heated and full of emotion and frustration that we need to intercede and potentially shut it down.

People are bound to get frustrated, nothing is more confounding than feeling like someone just is not listening to you! Especially when you feel like you've provided proof and have first hand experience as to why you are right. Both sides were at that stage, I think, and that's when it got a little out of hand. Ideally, one of the mods would have caught the thread before it reached that point and only have had to give a reminder to be civil, please, but the thread can continue with no problems as long as people stay civil. Unfortunately, it had devolved to the point where there was no saving the discussion, we felt, so we closed it down.

I hope that makes sense to everyone - we're not trying to police the forum, keep people from sharing their thoughts and opinions, and trying to censor people. We want you guys to give constructive criticism, positive support, and great advice! That's why the forum was made

Just bear with us - remember, the forum is only a year old and is still growing and evolving. We don't have a really strong member base like you see on the Talk forums or the Linnie forum, where most of you have come here from. We're still learning and growing all together That's part of the fun and part of the pitfalls we face here. We're learning as we grow - if you feel we've made a mistake or you have any advice or critique to give us? Go for it! Again, we want an open exchange of ideas even when it's directed at us. We even have a section of the forum for it, and I highly encourage you guys to do so. If you don't want to post it where others can see, feel free to PM any of the moderators or admins and share your thoughts or feelings - even if it's just to vent. We're here to listen Your feedback can really help us see things from a different viewpoint and can help us change how we handle things so you guys feel more welcome too.

Sorry if I've rambled a bit, but I want to make sure everyone is on the same page and understands what we do and why. I don't want anyone feeling as though their opinions aren't valued or go ignored. Thanks for listening and for all your help guys We have a great group going here and the forum is growing slowly, but steadily!

Thank you, Jenny. I agree with you completely. Things had definitely gotten out of hand. We all have our love of birds in common, and we need to stay civil and respectful to one another.

I am a moderator on Talk Parrotlets, and sometimes it seems to me that posters don't read what they're typing and/or don't see that written words can come across more harshly than if they were said face to face, and things just spiral downward from there.

Thanks to you and the other moderators for helping us!

I agree Jenny it got way out of hand too. I let Abby know it was happening so she could close it which she did. Thanks for letting everybody know to stay in line and thank you to all the mods who help out the forum

I know it got out of hand, and I'm sorry for that.
I'm not going to be coming here really often anymore, I'll just pop in from now on (it has nothing to do with this post, don't worry.)

Thanks Becca!

I know I'm new here and this is a few months late, but I just want to say I appreciate what's happening in this post and I hope to start participating in this community specifically because of issues in the last forum I posted in. Except in that case, it was the owners/admins being childish and argumentative

Way to stay on top of things, admins!!

Differing view points are important to consider. Just leave the fightin' words out of it.

Hey guys........I registered a while ago and will participate, but for some reason I may not post new threads, but I can post replies, attachments, and edit my posts. Have I been bad ?
I know this is not where I should be to post this, but knowing we are all bird lovers.....I'm not sure how many of us watch any of the many "bird cams" and if anyone is familiar with the eaglet family at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens in Virginia. The bald eagle nest there recently had a horrible tragedy. 3 weeks ago the mother eagle was struck and killed by an airplane while fishing with her mate to feed her 3 eaglets. It was decided that the father would not be able to take care of his babies (even though he tried), they were removed and taken to the Wildlife Center of Virginia and will be released sometime in August. The center built a nest and put up a cam to watch 24/7....and the moderators are still answering questions every day. My plea to all who appreciate all of the wonderful people involved with the care of these babies (and to other wonderful wildlife) to go to Chase Community Giving on Facebook and vote for both Wildlife Center of Virginia and Norfolk Botanical Gardens!! Please also visit their sites..........it has been so very sad, but heart warming as well. The dad eagle did return to his empty nest several times (can be viewed on YouTube) but has been seen everyday doing his "eagle thing" and the babies have grown and are doing great. Thank you to all the bird loving community!!! Hurry to vote.....it ends in a couple of days!!!
