When I took the lock back to the store, the owner told me that I had misunderstood, and the lock on that cage is one that she has never seen break previously. The lock that breaks regularly is a totally different style. However, she did say that the lock that was broken was bent, and when they gave me a replacement lock, it was bent rather severely. So, my hope is that the replacement lock they gave me will hold up. She said if it didn't, they would help me figure out something else.
I do trust the owner of the store a great deal.
My thought is that when the cage came in they had someone build it who was perhaps inexperienced. (They had some new hires in there.) This person perhaps did not realize the original lock was bent. Or, if the person who assembled the cage did realize the lock was bent, I suppose he didn't think it would break. At any rate, I had told two people that the lock didn't fit correctly and so forth when the cage first came in, but I didn't speak with the owner. From now on, if I'm at all dissatisfied with anything, I'm speaking directly to the owner, because I think the others answer with what they believe to be right, but don't always know what is right.
Right now the lock seems to be working fine. I'm glad because I really love that cage otherwise, and Roni uses every cubic inch of it.
