Bird Room Plans

If you read my thread "My Life in a Thread" you will know that there is a chance I will be transforming my current bedroom into a bird room, and I will be moving to the basement. I can't put into words how excited I am about this. I'm already beginning to make plans for it.

Here are some ideas I have...

To spare the carpet - you know those hard plastic mats you put under your desk chair to roll around on? I was thinking of putting a few of those under the cages and under stands and whatnot. That way it's easier to clean up the poo and we won't have to constantly scrub the carpets. Ideally, I would like laminate flooring put in, that would be awesome! But it's not super practical, and my parents would definitely not allow it.

I want a large java tree in the center of the room. I also want an additional stand of some sort, maybe multiple stands depending on how much room I have. (Having a hard time picturing it now.) I also want hanging stuff. I want rope nets hanging on the walls, and those sphere cotton rope perch thingys hanging from the ceilings.

What's great about my room is I have a small bathroom connected to it with a tub and shower and everything. So I can use that to wash dishes, get fresh water, and I can put shower perches in the shower so the birds can bathe.

I also have a closet with doors, which will be great for keeping all my excess supplies stored, out of the way and hidden (since I can always shut the doors.)

Do you guys have any other ideas for me? I'm so darn excited!

That sounds awesome! I would love to have a bird room and I think when we buy a house I may have to claim a room just for my Reptiles and Birds.
Maybe if you have room put a couch in there or even just a lounger chair for you to relax in with your FIDs?

When I had my bird room I just had the cages and the carpets. I wanted to have laminate floors but at the time it was laminate flooring or vets bills My original intention was to also have everybody outside

I'd get some plastic baby mats to hang up behind your cages and stands so that any food flicked won't damage the walls (and they won't sit on top of the cages/stands and shred them)

I'll add to this if I think of anything

I totally forgot to add that!

Right now in my room I have a futon, but there is already a bed downstairs in the basement in the room I'd be moving into. So instead of moving the futon downstairs, I can just use the bed that's already down there and keep the futon in the bird room (as long as there is enough room once all the big bird supplies are in there.) The futon is pretty small and of course transforms into a couch or bed. So that will be a good place to relax and enjoy my birds.

I have a TV in my room right now that I'll probably end up moving to the room in the basement, so once my room upstairs transforms into the bird room, I will probably put some sort of small radio in the bird room so that I can quietly play it for them while I'm gone.

It's gonna look like a pretty fancy bird room! Just because a few years ago we redid my room completely, so it's a pretty light purple, with pretty white drapes on the windows and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. LOL.
