Smile large toy idea

ok so today i had an idea and i threw it together and i figured i would post it and show everyone the mental path from idea to toy.

here is the toy 'base'. it is probably a good 2-3 feet tall and about a foot wide

- 2" chain holding it up
- 1" chain woven into the red ball
- red ball used to have a bell in it. from the pet store
- 3/8" dowels shoved in the chain
- (random) egg carton pieces stuck in red ball
- large dowel in red ball

ok so now what? well, lets look at how my brain gets creative! this is a pretty complex base (usually i just have a vine ball or one item).

start thinking of what materials your bird likes. (cartons? paper? cardboard? leather? acrylic parts?)

now, how can you incorporate those things onto the toy base? you can put foraging material in the ball. this can be paper products, nutriberries, or nuts in the shell, etc

i was thinking of a long strip of egg carton "pods" and poking holes in the bottom. then shove the dowels through. this can be done many times until the dowels have become more like walls for chewing.

think about the base. if the ends of the small chain was sticking out, what could you attach to the end? you could string 2" plastic rings onto the chain and end it with a plastic 'wiffle' ball or plastic golf ball. or you could use birdy bagels or large pacifiers instead of plastic rings.

(plastic rings)

starting to get the hang of getting ideas to make the toys better?

lets go further with it!

going back to the original toy base, what if there were dowels in each chain link (picture it in your mind!). now, as you are putting each dowel in, put a birdy bagel in between. much different eh? .

going back to the egg carton idea, put one strip of egg carton pods on so it touches the chain. now think of things you can hang onto the dowel. once thats on, put another row of pods so it doesn't fall off. repeat.

you could even take all the dowels off and use 'zip ties' or 'cable ties' to attach more chains, and more things on the end of the chain.

keep the ideas coming!!

i hope this thread helps a little bit with how i think of toy ideas. start with something and then go through the different options give me some feedback if this helped make you more creative!
