? on coffee wood playarea.

I have a new coffee wood play area/stand that is light in color, on layaway. I was thinking It would be nice to paint the stand with acrylic paint brown on the trunk green on the upper branches. Any comments will be appreciated.

I'm not keen painting anything to do with birds as they will no doubt chew the paint, which could be harmfull.
Would it be possible to dye it using a non toxic vegetable dye? If not, then I'd just leave it as is.

Cheers,

John.

I'm with John on that one. I wouldn't risk it if they are going to be having a chew!

I agree with John and Daisy.
Coffee wood is such a fine material, it doesn't need any painting.
I donated my linnies a coffee wood perch for their cage, and they love it!

I have the play area home, the wood is actually very nice the way it is natural. I've been busy soon I will have to get a pix.

Yes, I wouldn't paint it either. I do know that food coloring is safe but it washes off when wet.

Here is a pix of my new wood play stand. I have it fixed for when they fly down to the floor they climb back up the comfy twist, or can walk over to the play area on my desk. During the day Levi's and Karma's cage is pushed over to the play area near my computer desk. Skyler flyies from his cage to Levi's cage to get on the play area.

Wow! That's a beautiful stand! May I ask where you got it? Did you buy it or make it yourself? My boys would love it!

I got my perch from parrotmom.com.
I used Wilton icing coloring to stain mine. Its a thick gel, so I first wet the wood with hot water then dipped a 1" flat brush (I think its folk art brand) in water, then dabbed in the gel and brushed the color on the wood.
I'm not thrilled with the blue but we use it for kids events. I always prefer leaving things natural with less ingredients but if you want to color it, food grade is best.

Also, be aware that stains will run if they get wet. I haven't found one yet that I completely trust on my white carpet.

You can also search natural food grade stain, and you will find several results.

Thanks for fixing the picture! My dh made it for them and they really like it. About every
6 months I put new wrap on and change the colors and of course redo all of the toys. It takes a few days for them to try it after that. They mostly play under the papers on the bottom!

Figures they like the paper at the bottom, they are like cats with a new cat tower that ignore the tower and play in the box it came in.

Yeah, just like kids preferring the boxes to the toys!
