Unhappy Lighting Fixtures

Hi Everyone,

I would like to take a survey and see what type of lighting fixtures everyone uses for their birds. We all know the importance of lighting.
I had purchased the dome shaped clip on type sold at the petshops. And they actually started on fire. Luckily I was home and saw the flame it scared the tar out of me. So Im asking everyone what type they use so I can try those.

Thanks ahead of time for sharing

When I had my birds I never used any type of lighting, but I do know some people on here do. I'll let them chime in.

I just suggest that you get lighting that is actually made for Parrots and is good quality and safe. Sounds like the lamp you got was cheap and maybe you had the wrong type of bulb in it? Those dome lamps usually have a max wattage that they can have in them.

Hi Julie,
I'm sorry you had such awful and frightening experience.
I always use a special compact bird lamp in a table lamp that stands on a board behind the flight cage.

How scary! Was it an avian specific lamp? I'm assuming you mean for the UV? A UV lamp doesn't get too hot in comparison to other lights and heating equipment so I'd be very shocked if one of them had caught fire! That said, you're referring to the holder right? Maybe buy the actual bulb as an avian specific one but use a reptile dome? They can withstand some very high temps!
