New Perch for Maxx

I think I finally added the last perch to Maxx's new digs. I will continue to add toys, you can never have too many toys, but for now my perch hunt is over.

He now has a 32" Rope, 21" Rope, 32" Manzanita, 12" Manzanita, 24" Wacky Perch, 2 wood tree perches, and a 46" Boing.

His new perch is a Grapevine Large Double by Golden West.

Bob - Very nice setup! You're providing all the best for Maxx! He's going to have such a wonderful life with you! They sure know how to steal our hearts, don't they?

I put Libby's new wacky wood perch (one of your great recommendations!) into her cage yesterday -- it goes all the way across, so it's just under 32". She's still a bit afraid of it, but I think she'll get used to it in time. I love the look of it, all twisty and gnarly! Looks so much better than the wooden dowel that came with the cage! Here's a pic:

And here's Libby, glaring at it:

So far, I've gotten her to sit on it for about a minute. Only time will tell, but I hope she gets used to it! Thanks for the recommendation!

Oops! Hope I didn't hijack your thread!

One other thing - if you can fit it in, you might want to get Maxx an "orbit". Libby has one in her daytime cage and her sleeping cage and she loves them! Angelina has one in her cage too, and she spends a ton of time on it. Just a suggestion!

I love the wacky perch, do you have it so it moves or is it bolted down? I have a orbit on my list, do you have any suggestions of best place to get one?

I have 2 sundecks on order, they were supposed to arrive today, but were back ordered. While I was there I decided to get the new perch.

Great look Libby, Maxx does that same look at me.

Hijack, NEVER, I love to see pics of Libby and her Castle. It always gives me ideas

I know bob isn't joanne the best i have gotten so many great ideas from her! I have ordered two sun decks from foster and smith and a wheat grass, I sent a fax so hopefully they won't be out of stock too. Love the grape vine perch. jo anne and i have a cage top type play perch made from the grapevine and it looks awsome. My Safe bird store had a good price. I think PP might carry it too. Max's castle is looking great!

Bob: I have washers and screws in each end of the perch, so it doesn't move. Libby loves swings of any kind and loves swinging on her orbit, but I don't think she'd like the perch rotating back and forth under her feet, so I made sure it was tight. Who knows though! Never know what they'll love or hate!

In the second pic, the one with Libby giving me "the look", she's standing on one of her sundecks -- they make great extra places for her to go!

I got the two orbits she has at my local bird store. I bought the one Angelina has from Drs. Foster and Smith, but it'd be too small for Maxx, it's more Parrotlet/Parakeet/Lovebird size.

Here's an orbiter at Persnickety Parrot which will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. I added some extra beads hanging on plastic chain, plus I strung some pieces of wood on the hanging chain, just to fancy it up a little.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Daisy! She's a Pineapple Green Cheek Conure. Their heads are tan and their beaks are a light color, which makes her look a little different than the "normal" Green Cheek. I think they're ALL beautiful!

I believe pineapples are yellow sided cinnamon... so they have the looks of both... the tan head and lighter colors are what attracted me to the pineapples to start with... But I agree ... all green cheeks ( and other birds ) are beautiful!!

ParrotletsRock -- I didn't know Pineapples are yellow sided cinnamon! That explains a lot! I named her Libby because of the Pineapple connection!

I agree, birds are absolutely beautiful creatures -- I've always been fascinated by them!

Even my means as a snake gander was beautiful... but man was he mean... He did learn to treat me with respect after I caught his head a few times when he tried to strike me... he was smart... he would lean forward to bite me and then not.. but any one else he would...lol. I had more bruises on my arms and umm...lol... butt from him when we first got him... but ended up giving him away as the kids were terrified of him.

The only Pineapple GCC's I've seen up close were Libby and her clutch mates. They all looked like Libby, except Libby had more red on her face and chest. The feathers on her head are a sort of pale tan/gray, and when she's feeling really feisty and/or getting ready to BITE, all those tan/gray feathers stand straight up and it makes her head look huge! I know to BACK OFF right away!
