Revamped Maxx's favorite toy

I got Maxx this toy a couple months back, he loved it to the point where it was completely destroyed. Nothing left of the Pinecone, finger traps or colored sticks. With the help of eBay, 72 finger trap, and Hobby Lobby, 75 Jumbo Colored Sticks, I was able to put his toy back together, minus the pinecone. I have enough parts to redo it 7 or 8 times. Total cost less than $12. Watching Maxx destroy it... Priceless.

The Original:

And my updated version, even added a bell, EVERY toy should have a bell

Maxx, 5 seconds after adding it to his cage

PERFECT! Making toys they can destroy is so inexpensive and fun! Libby and Harley LOVE those finger traps! They each go through one a day! I also buy them in bulk on eBay so I always have them on hand. I keep one or two strung on a long chain with a big bell on the end in each of their cages -- simple, but they love them!

Thanks guys. Joanne, I have the long chain with the big bell on he bottom, I will have to add a finger trap to it. It is hanging next to this toy.

Lovebirdlover, The original toy came with the pinecone. I have read somewhere that cleaned dried pinecones are safe. They do recommend putting them in the oven for a bit to get rid of any bugs etc...

I am so happy to know I can get those finger traps on eBay! They don't last long with Gildy either. He LOVES them. I never thought to look on eBay.

Maxx looks like he got lots of stuff to keep him busy.

I got 72 of them for $7.18 with free shipping, and yes, he is quite the spoiled little bird.

Bob, really nice job! You have given me some good ideas. I don't know if you have ever been to California Bird Nerds website but they have some items you might like. Kristen also has various toy parts on her site at Persnickety Parrots. I love making bird toys, it's really kind of fun and relaxing. You are soooooo right that if you have a conure every toys should have a bell. It is so funny when they are mad (or thats how it seems anyway) and just raising cain with that bell.

I love making toys for my birds. And you made a really great one. Another great place to buy toy part is My Safe Bird Store. Keep up the good work on the toy making!

oh and also, you can stick seeds in the pine cone for foraging. gives them something to do during the day while you are gone.
